Question On Windows 7 now...FS Crashes at Main Menu immedietely...

    Hey guys,

So I made the transistion to Windows 7 and it is GREAT! My issue is this, my FS Disks were very scratched and couldn't even go past 2% installation. I backed up my entire Microsoft Games folder onto an external hard drive so I thought I would try running it from there. It loaded up like it was a brand new installation but as soon as it got to the main menu (went to the fly school page, I think thats the Introduction page) it crashed right back to the desktop.

I tried running as an Administrator with no luck. I think it's prolly because there are missing FS files that I have no idea where they are. I'm sure I'll be faced with a reinstall but I'm wondering if there are suggestions as to what the issue may be. Sounds like it could be a .dll error too, maybe too outdated for FS9 - Windows 7.

besides purchasing a new, or new to you, FS9 (ebay, craigslist, amazon, game store discount bin, etc) try removing the FS9.cfg.

folks - treat your disks with care! my FS9 disks look like new and they were purchased on release day. disk 4 remains in the CD/DVD drive of my FS computer 99% of the time. if not in the drive it is ONLY in a jewelcase. i see no reason why my FS9 disk will not last another 15-20-25 years.

That might be my problem. I can't find it, even through search. I don't see how FS would boot to the main menu without it but idk...I think a fresh install might be the best option. Where is it located again?

Ok, I placed the FS9.cfg and respecting files in the correct location. I'm gonna try out FS once I move my "Microsoft Games" folder to the (C) drive. I will post a status report once I've done so.

    Hi.

I have a daughter with a lot of cds that skip when she plays them and was considering buying her a disc repair kit. The music isn't too bad but the skips get on my nerves... This one http://www.ebuyer.com/product/242466 is just an example; I haven't shopped around yet. There are surely plenty of others on the market.

The price is a bit steep but I suppose it will rescue the same disc a few times, or repair all your scuffed dvds. It may be worth considering, but as wdscobie pointed out, there's only one real solution.

    Regards,
    Dave

Still getting a crash to the desktop, even in compadibilty mode. Maybe something to do with the registry files?

And Dave, it would be cheaper to just purchase a new copy of FS.

I had exactly the same problem when I went to install FS9 on my new rig with Windows 7 ( I actually got to about 65% before it stopped, my problem was with disc # 4). I know this seems obvious, but I cleaned the disc with a soft clean and moist cloth, let it dry and it worked. Beyond that no problems at all with FS9 on a 64 bit
Windows 7 system. As already mentioned there are also places that can restore the disc.
