I wouldn't buy a mac unless i was seriously into music or graphic design.

As far as i know you can't run windows programs on a mac (including FSX).

I did hear a story about someone running fsx on a mac using WINE though.

At home we have a dual boting PC running W7 on one hard drive and as a mac (hackintosh) Snow Leopard on the other. It was a bit of a pain to set up and will only run in one resolution though as a result of not being able to properly configure the graphics card.

    Q9550 @ 3.78 GHz with Gainward GTX570 1.25 Gig DRAM
    4 Gig DDR2 RAM - Windows 7 64 Bit
    FSX SP2
    Resolution 1680 X 1050 X32

Actually it is very possible. Apple supports it directly with their Boot Camp feature. This basically creates a dual boot system where you pick which OS you want to run when the computer first boots up. There is also the virtual machine route using Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion from within the Mac environment. For something like FS, the Boot camp route would be preferable as there is less overhead.

If the system is only for FS, I would go for a PC as you can get a more powerful computer for less than a Mac. On the other hand, Macs don't have as may security issues which could be a bonus if it's for a family with an inquisitive child.
