Thread: ATC Window not responding

    Default ATC Window not responding

Here's a strange one which I've never encountered before. Hopefully somebody can help. Starting a flight from parking (happens to be Boundary Bay in B.C.), the ATC window doesn't recognize the button 1 instruction to tune to ATIS, but DOES recognise the button 2 instruction to tune to ground. If I hit 2, the correct taxi options window appears, but it fails to recognize any of the taxi options, buttons 2-7, but does respond to option1 to tune to ATIS - which takes me back to the option to tune to ground, as well as button 8 to requestt taxi to parking. Seems like whatever config. file controls the ATC window has gotten corrupted.

    Any adivice on this?

Is this the default Boundary Bay - or do you have an enhancement for it installed?

I had a problem I posted here a short time ago with weird happenings with the window, no idea what was going on, but the problem I had was more of the window not opening than it was options within the window. No idea what was happening, but I want to ask you, do you have NVIDIA? I just upgraded mine to a gtx460 and I haven't had the problem. But..............I also uninstalled a ton of software to see if I fixed the problem, AES, FSPAssengers, and on and on, double examined my keyboard assignments, on and on, nothing until I have this new gtx460 and I'm not sure yet that is the fix, please keep us all updated. Thanks,
    John

BTW, I had an GTX275 before the gtx460

No questions are daft on our forum. Yup, button 1 works. Also, I have found that there is one airport that it works fine on and that happens to be Abbotsford in BC (I'm a Vancouverian). Can't find any other airport at which it works. So I started thinking it must be a scenery problem. I renamed FS9.cfg and let it reinstall, but this didn't make any difference. I can't see it as a scenery.cfg problem but will try my last backup and see what happens - when my wife returns my external backup drive which she "borrowed" to take to work.
Will let you know if the light bulb flashes on any other ideas, but don't forsake me yet!

I THINK I GOT IT: CREATING a new flight at any airport works fine. LOADING a saved flight from the same destination gives me problems. So it looks like my saved flights have been corrupted. I'll confirm that when I get my backup drive back from my wife. Interesting, because my saved flights are all there in the right place. I was on the verge of reinstalling Vancouver+, so this has saved me a lot of trouble.

    Thanks for your interest.

Interesting, but its never been the source of any of the problems I have had. Was good for about a dozen flights with my new video card, then yesterday it happened again. No ATC, I can't bring up the window, using the default ~ key. Nothing will bring it back. I can fly, without issue, but no atc. Weird. I tried changing my keyboard plug-in during the flight, no difference. Interesting, this was the second flight of the day, without a reboot in between. Could some type of memory be the problem. Its totally ridiculous.

Not to hammer away at this even further, but I believe the problem may be related to the assignments options. For some reason, when I lose my atc screen, I have gone in to the assignment settings and found a different key assignment used to activate ATC. If I change it back to the normal key, atc works! And to further support the assignment theory, I have found out that the ATC window will come back if I click the atc icon on the panel. So now my question is, can the assignment for atc be somehow saved and thereby changed when aircraft are switched. Any assistance would be appreciated. Others must have experienced this problem

If you are running on Win 7 or VISTA be sure you start FS with a shortcut set in advanced properties to run as admin. You can also right click on FS9.cfg (and scenery.cfg) to insure the attributes are not set to read only.

Finally check your security applications are set to 'trust' FS as an application with all privileges so it can delete/create/modify any files it needs to get to including those in your documents/application data folders.

okay, I'll doublecheck those things and report back. Happened again this morning with the L1011 from HJG. At first the key to activate ATC worked, but then just before taxi, it stopped. When I checked the assignment, it had the wrong key assigned, so I changed it and then it worked.
I'll report back on what exactly what was in atc field before I changed it.
    BIZARRO!
