Default GeForce 3 video cards and FS2000

    Hello fellow simmers out there...

I wanted to get the feedback of people using GeForce 3 video cards. I have heard of some people having a problem of "floating" runway lights with their GeForce 3 cards and FS2000.

Please post your experience here...good or bad, as I need assistance in evaluating for a purchase.

Hopefully there are some people out there who have a GeForce 3 and have had no problems with it and FS2000. I especially want to here from these people.

    Thanks in advance.

I have a Geforce 3, and as much as I hate to say it, the taxiway light at Meigs feild sometimes float when seen from a distance. This is a minor problem though, and the good with the GeForce 3 far outweighs the bad. I say, get the G3 anyway - heck, FS2K2 will be out soon and you wont have to worry about that anyway.
If it matters, Im using the Asus V8200 Deluxe Geforce 3.

I have also seen these floating lights... they appear to be almost like a "reflection", because I think I saw the lights on the ground too.

I would NOT worry about this, because the card is super. (thanks for askin!)

This floating lights issue does not follow the FS series into the new version, from what I understand.

AVSIM forums have a few threads about the floating lights and potential fixes - not to suggest competing forums, but it has been discussed there recently.

I have been running the gforce 3 since the day they were released and have never experianced any problems, I upgraded from a gts2 and have never regretted the money spent for one min.

Here are the lights...see what you think:-

If you look at my today's post in that forum called "Departure from London Heathrow", you will see the quality of the daytime shots. Then you can decide.

If I was building a system right now, with all the stuff that is pending...I would put in a cheap GeForce2 card (they do NOT show lights in the night sky, with the same drivers)as an interim measure. Then I would take my time over deciding which of the coming "Top of the Line" cards I would buy.

Excellent suggestion Peter, I heartily agree.
I went for the latest and greatest when I built my system a few months ago and now I am puting up with the lights.
Hopefully FS2002 will be out soon.

Concerning lights in the sky in FS2000, well I to have the same problem with my GeForce 3. But I am also experiencing another issue with the Geforce 3 card which is really irritating in fact I am worried that it may be the hardware or the fact that FS2000 doesn’t like the card itself. I have tried every driver there is from Nvidia also OS Win 98, WinMe even Win2000 and I have also updated the BIOS for the motherboard.

    Check this out,

When flying in very dense cloud (overcast etc) and using Spot-view to see the aircraft from the outside, all is well until I get back in the cockpit and there in front of me is a 737 or whatever looking at me through the cockpit window! Now that’s not all if I look to the left or right, when returning back to the front view, I have the side view (left or right) in front of me. FS2000 doesn’t freeze during this process you can still keep on flying as normal except of course you can’t see
    anything in front of you.

The only way to clear up the screen is to get out of the clouds fast or turn off clouds from the menu. Also another thing which is weird, when entering the transition from thick clouds to clear sky one sees a thin black line across the screen. The line disappears when you are clear of clouds. Irritating isn’t it ?

If any GeForce 3 owners out recognize this problem please reply.

    System Info

    Fujitsu-Siemens Silverline

    Bios: 4.06 1.08 (latest)
    CPU: Pentium 4 (1400 MHz)
    Ram: 256 RDRAM
    Sound card: SB Live 5.1
Video card: GeForce 3 64 MB
OS: As mentioned before I have tried several and all operating systems have been updated concerning drivers, patches and Service Packs etc.

I will be posting this on a couple of more forums.

    Cheers

Trevor, I've seen the first problem you've mentioned. I saw remnants of the spot view out of the window when I returned inside the cockpit. But in my case I only got this when I had my RAM settings cranked up too fast. I was trying to run CAS 2.5 DDR memory at CL 2 on my Athlon system, which appeared to work fine, except for that problem showing up. I've since eased up on the timings and the problem hasn't shown up anymore.

Our systems are dissimilar so unfortunately this may not be immediately helpful for you, but a hardware issue may be something to consider.

Thanks for replying Biff, I really appreciate it, I am thinking of sending back my machine for a checkup but as usual trying to convince Tech support that there is a hardware problem isn’t easy. If it is a hardware issue could it be the GeForce 3
which is maybe overheating or something?
