I see fsgensis is talking bout some new mesh files. there are files out there as you know with 19m, 10m 38m 78m, any recommendations about which ones make sense of fsx acceleration with sp1?

It mostly depends on where you fly. A mesh is the elevation grid which is used to lay down the landscape. The more detailed the mesh (lower numbers) the more precise it is.
However, if you fly over flat terrain, it does not matter very much. If you fly over coastlines and mountains it matters more.

Hi there !
FS Genesis is a great add-on, I have their FSX Bundle and the world is now just so awesome ! Highly recommended !

FSX System:
EVGA 780i SLI FTW, E8400 @ 4.0GHz, 4GB DDR2-800 Ballistix, 3x EVGA GTX 260 896MB in 2D surround with 3x Dell E228WFP 22-inch, 2x WD 640GB Black HD, Antec twelve Hundred case. External 750GB backup drive.
FS Genesis is a great addon. Unfortunately Fsx depicts all runways as level with no change in elevation from one end of the runway to the other. This results in some runways being depicted on plateaus and others in gullies. Their Version 2 files for North America fix this, but the rest of the world has this anomaly.

I also have the FSGenesis world packages... but I like flying low, where terrain detail matters. If you spend most of your time at FL420, I'm not sure terrain mesh will be much of an enhancement.

There is little doubt that even the default ground textures are actually optimised for a higher than default mesh - there's a big improvement with their depiction of surface undulations between 76m and 19m for example, but as noted above, there's no gain without pain and the default airfields will now sit proud on platforms unless you fix them (or the mesh developer does).
There is also the possibility of a performance hit, although that's not a certainty.
Hi there,
I use FSGenesis mesh for both FS9 and FSX, it is truly excellent mesh. FSGenesis Base Terrain mesh for USA is 9.6m and their mesh for Canada is 19m. It is 9.6m in Hawaii and 38m for both Alaska and Mexico. Justin's mesh for most of the rest of the world ("FSG World Terrain Mesh") is 76.4m, and 19m for the Alps. He has just started releasing 19m FSX mesh for these places as well: Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanaon & Israel. Additionally,
FSGenesis has many other terrain mesh & terrain mesh products for other areas as well. Finally, all mesh is compiled and created using the latest and most accurate RW terrain elevation data.

Thus, I do not believe that you will find a more comprehensive & accurate set of terrain mesh than this. I have enjoyed it for years, and it truly does take MSFS 9 and X to whole new levels of realism.
With regard to the platforms-airports issue, FSGenesis has developed numerous "ATAP"s (airport terrain adjustment pack) files that address and correct these anomalies; and they also include some terrific waterfalls for Hawaii as well!
Hope this helps!![]()

I can remember someone telling me that default fsx mesh is around 74 meters.. i use a 4.8 meter mesh for England and Wales as they are part of the VFR scenery i have
you can find 10 meter mesh for the USA and some other country's ( i think ) here in the file library.
