Thread: saving/loading in IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946?

  1. Default saving/loading in IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946?

Hey guys, I recently purchased IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 and it is an AWESOME WW2 Flight sim. But I am having a bit of trouble with it. These missions (thankfully so) are Very long, and detailed. Like if you take off from a carrier you have to fly for what seems like ages to reach landfall, and then fly some more. My problem is as soon as I see a Zero come at me, it kindly places one bullet, strategically, into my engine. Fun yes? OF COURSE! The first couple times, but 2 weeks later on my 3rd attempt at trying to complete the mission, It gets a little boring flying for 5 hours over water. So if anyone would be kind enough to explain how I can save my mission progress, I would be very grateful for the information. I see somewhere in the INI file "save=console.cmd" and "load=console.cmd" I believe that may have something to do with saving mission progress, but I don't know how to get it to work, or where to find the console at. I have searhed everywhere for the information, but google turned up nothing, so you guys are my last bastion of hope (and sainity, cause if I fly ocean one more time I am going to start suffering from sea dementia).

Thank you guys so much in advance!!

Could anyone atleast tell me if it is possible to save or load mission progress? (not mission BUILDER progress. I dont know why but everyone thinks I am talking about that.)

I don't have IL-2 on my computer currently, and it has been a long time since playing it, so I can't answer your specific question. However, I do remember often getting bored with long transit flights, and I used settings for Autopilot and acceleration to target. Check your keyboard guide and you should find the relevant keystrokes.

    Mako,

In IL-2 1946 you cannot save Missions so you can re-start halfway through. You pretty much have to start over again with the last Mission every time you fire up the sim. The .ini files are related to the Mission Builder only, so you can save a Mission you created and load it into the sim. During Missions where there's a lot of long distance flying I do what johnost does... turn on the Autopilot, set time compression to 8x and turn on the Map to see where you're at. When you get to the battle area, turn the time compression back to normal, turn off the AP and go fight!

In the Main Menu under 'Controls' you can set up key & joystick button assignments, just like you can in MSFS. One other thing... when you see bogeys coming at you head on, wait until right around the 2.00 distance mark, then open up on them. If you have the realism settings set to Realistic Gunnery you've got to put the rounds right on the mark to score hits. IMHO un-check the Realistic Gunnery and Limited Ammo toggles so you can score hits. Once you get better at leading the bogey and placing rounds where you want them then switch it back.

I hope this helped you out... IL-2 1946 gets kinda complicated, especially when trying to land on both land & on the flattop.

    Good Luck!

    Alan
