Thread: What do you all think of UTX? (Ultimate Terrain X)

Question What do you all think of UTX? (Ultimate Terrain X)

Well, I've just started playing (well more realistically, flying Microsoft Flight Simulator) - I last played Microsoft Flight Simulator 98 all those years ago and it feels really great to be playing it again.

Last week I purchased Microsoft Flight Simulator X and I cannot believe how many addons there are for Microsoft Flight Simulator now!!! lol

Since installing and having my first play on Microsoft Flight Simulator X I have ordered pretty much all the Saitek ProFlight range of gadgets - The GF is going mad lol.... (mainly as I keep dropping hints that I'm going to build a home cockpit lol!!!)

Anyway... Back to my original queston.... I have seen some really great screenshots of some realism addons for sceneray but there are so many!!! - I would like to ask what your personal opinion is to the 'best' (most realistic) scenery package? - I have seen many eg. REX but I'm thinking of purchasing all the UTX packages (Europe, USA, Canada etc.)?? - Would you say that UTX was one of the best?, the best? or ??? - Or maybe you could give me a recommendation?

Also another queston (as Im new to this whole scenery add-on stuff)... With say UTX and REX are the weather effects included by default? (eg. Does the ground and weather combine to make the 'scenery' packs or are they completely seperate?

Thanks in advance and hello to everyone! (I'm new here)

I'm using GEX and UTX Alaska. Alaska is the only UTX package that I have, but I really like it. It makes Alaska a lot more realistic and has a nice configuration utility so you can "tune" it to your system. Love GEX -- don't leave home without it.

IMO, I think UT is practically 'necessary', especially for a primarily GA flyer as myself. I find I avoid places in the world without it.

BTW, I've been using FS since FS5, and yes, things sure have changed.

For me is excellent, no other single package offers you so much detail for such a big area!

You will enjoy it very much!

Yes In, IMO, "UTX" is a absolute must have with "GEX" (replaces ground textures, etc) a close second.

"REX" is also a great add-on. It's a great weather engine and replaces textures such as clouds, runways, lights etc. All three compliment each other and do different things.

    Together they will transform FSX.

Always hate 'me too' posts but I agree totally - you can not go wrong with UTX - makes a world of difference.

    Love UTX!!!

It is especially great when flying VFR as with UTX you can actually follow highways, landmarks, etc. as they are very easily visible.

Thank you guys, all your posts are really helpful!!!

I think I'll be definetly buying UTX then...

So am I correct in saying the following....

    UTX -- Overall ground scenery
REX -- Wheather and Runway Scenery etc.?

Would you say I would be ok with just UTX? - As obviously buying all the packs is expensive (but well worth it by the sounds of things) but I don't think I would be able ot manage buy all the UTX packs and then REX and GEX too??

    As from this...

It sounds like I should really use both??

Thanks in advance and hope to hear back shortly

for more realistic VFR flying I highly recommend UTX. For better ground textures(although subjective to some) GEX follows closely. REX 2 adds great hi def clouds and airport textures. Of course the more hi res things get the lower your fps so worth bearing that in mind!
