Thread: Default A321 Unflyable??????

  1. Default Default A321 Unflyable??????

    Hi Guys

Is the default A321 unflyable or I am just a terrible pilot?

I can't adjust the elevator trim to begin with, and generally it is acting
very poorly with all the controls of my flight sim yoke.

I am doing fine with the other planes including the 737 or 747.............

Do I have a corrupted cfg file, or I sould blame Airbus?

The Airbus is not a Boeing! You don't "adjust the trim" in an AB, you let the computer take care of that chore...

It flys fine once you get used to it. It flys even better with the updated FDE in the file library.

I was flying manually, and I couldn't keep the altitude.

On the overhead panel to the right there are a row of switches under FLT CTRL. Make sure all those buttons are on. This controls the flight computer and if they're off the airbus is hard to fly.

I think in normal law trim stabilizer is supposed to be controlled by ELACs. In case of ELAC failure SECs will control. I assume the default AB is trying to replicate this FBW behavior of the sidestick in flight mode.

I Wonder if FS models the Full authority autopilot on the Airbus?
I.E, if you want to do a 70* bank, the plane will say NO, your getting 45* and thats that.

    Thanks.
I didn't know about these buttons.
I checked them and they were on.
I turned off the elevator trim, and I took control of the trim.
I was able to fly and land this baby manually....and with ease.
    Thanks again.

Being a fly-by-wire aircraft, this plane in FSX is often "misunderstood". As Bill said, the Airbus is NOT a Boeing.

Despite the fact the FSX engine is somewhat limiting when it comes to modelling an Airbus and its flight characteristics (well, I can only go by what I have read) ... and therefore the representation of the aircraft in FSX is apparently not be all that it could be ... I personally find the default FSX A321 an easy easy aircraft to fly. It's one of my favourites, even though it is an FSX default. If you don't try to fly it like a Boeing, and if you do understand it is fly by wire and what that entails, then this aircraft handles and flys extremely well. Hands-on (no autopilot) it handles, in my opinion, far better than a Boeing ... thanks to the fly-by-wire system. I really enjoy flying it.

In short, it is definately flyable. If you understand it and its systems, and you fly it accordingly, it rewards you immensely.

I'm not an Airbus fan myself. At least the default A321. I tried the other day (again, sigh) to land this baby, and came *bouncing* in -- oh them poor passengers -- 'cause at about 10'-20' above the runway something shifted into gear and seemed to take over the elevator control, where I had no more control.

I admit I don't fly the biggies much, and have very little knowledge of them (and the fly-by-wire system), so that doesn't help. I CAN see, once mastered good enough, it would be more enjoyable to fly than Boeing (no comments! ).....at least from my view.

Does that "FLT CTRL" panel also control the elevator control -- or rather, lack of -- that I mentioned (elevator trim as mentioned above, perhaps?)?
