    Hello Cavvy.

    The process is not diffilcult. When you unzip a new scenery, do so in a temp file you create. This is to eliminate any unforseen problems. Basic scenery files have a main folder with the name of the scenery, e.g. Real SFO. Inside that folder you will find two other folders, one called 'scenery' and the other 'texture'. If these are there then just place the main folder 'Real SFO' into the FS9 root directory in the addon scenery folder or in another folder you designate. I created a folder named "My Addon Scenery" and I put all addons there. Then crank up FS9, click on the 'Settings' tab, then the 'Scenery Library' tab, then on the 'Add Area' tab, navigate to where you placed the new scenery, click on it, hit OK and it appears in the list. Now you will have to decide where to put it in the listing. There is usually a readme file if any special instructions should be followed.

    Sometimes the original folder may contain other folders, such as: Effects, AFCAD, or others. In this case, move the CONTENTS of the folder, not the folder itself, into the corresponding folder in the FS9 root directory. I usually put the AFCAD in the scenery folder of the new scenery if it is not already in there instead of moving it to another location. This way, if I decide to eliminate that scenery, I won't have a rogue AFCAD lurking somewhere which could cause the sim to stop responding.

    Then, exit out of FS9 and restart. Your new scenery should now appear in the sim.

    Post any other questions here and we'll be pleased to help.

    Jim D.

    Cavvy;
    I'm one of those on the "Doomsday" side of things.. I just know some addon will fail, corrupt my system or otherwise cause a major malfunction that resulted in a total Uninstall/Reinstall of FS9. (generally, the addons are safe, it's the "installer" who is screwed-up). So, in that light, ALL addons that I put into my FS9 I DO NOT just "Drag & Drop" the various files, folders or contents therein into their respective FS9 locations, I "Copy & Paste" each file, folder, etc. I keep the "original" Scenery/Aircraft, etc. in a separate folder (location of your choice) with the "Install Date" added to the folder name.
    I do this for one simple reason: IF (That's a BIG "If") I have a conflict with a particular addon, then I have the original to use as a "Contents Sheet" that will allow me to go into the various FS9 Folders and safely remove those folders, files, etc. WITHOUT running the risk of removing something important to the normal operation of FS9 or it's stock scenery's.
    Just a "Belt & Suspenders" type of pre-planning... You know.. "Just In Case".
    Plus, if I do have to un/reinstall FS9, I don't have to go back, hunt-up and download all the scenery's, aircraft, FSUIPC, Rwy12, etc. I have those "saved", in their entirety, onto CD's and DVD's.. Cheap Insurance!
