Thread: Problem with pmdg 747

  1. Default Problem with pmdg 747

Hey guys, I have a problem regarding saving the settings in pmdg's 747 for fsx.

Whenever I hit save under the pmdg's settings menu, it never seems to save. For example, under the IRS section, I tried saving all of the different times for aligning the IRS system, yet it always stayed at 10 minutes, meaning it won't "save" the new settings.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? How do I fix this?

I've found this problem occurs with all the PMDG loadout managers if they don't have admin permission to save the config file in the right place. It's not PMDG's fault. Try changing the file permissions on the config file folder to allow anything to edit it.

If it is the Vista/Windows 7 privilege rights preventing it then I'd suggest just turning the UAC completely off. It's not really useful imo anyway, at least to the competent computer user.

Snot a matter of competence, unless you think you can find a single line of malicious code in a 50MB file before it installs itself. Afterwards is too late.

UAC is there to protect the system, which it has done for me quite well. There are some situations where it IS easier to turn it off. A one time install, for example. I definately wouldn't for the long term though.

FOJ's reply is my preferred method.
If you trust a file give it "full" permission to run.
Once you learn how to do it, you'll find it quite useful...Don

Giving a program Admin permissions is sometimes no guarantee - you sometimes have to find the folder it's trying to write to, then change the permissions on the folder, not the program. That has the added advantage of not giving the program permission to do what it likes.

    Thanks for the replies guys!

Just a small problem... I'm a Mac user mainly so I'm not sure how to set permissions for the config file on vista. Or actually which config file it is in the first place. I'll much appreciate it if someone can tell me how, or I'll just use google.

    Thanks again guys!

I don't have the PMDG 747, but I can tell you what to do once you've found the config file to set the permissions...

Once you've found it, right-click( or control-click, if you want to...) on the containing folder, select Properties. Go to the security tab on the popup. Click 'Edit' halfway down on the right. Another popup will appear. In the top list in this popup will be a listing for 'Users'. Select that entry. In the bottom box below this, check the checkbox marked 'Full Control' under Allow. Then, OK both popups.

EDIT: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\PMDG" is where you should be looking, I think, so try setting the permissions on that folder.

    Hi Jevans,

Long time since I've talked to you. Which config file are you referring to, the fsx cfg, or a cfg inside the pmdg folder? This problem was driving me batty. Additionally, first time trying to make sense of the FMC, I thought I messed up somewhere, then really got that impression when the plane went flying willy nilly wherever it wanted to. Still studying the matter.
