Thread: Add On ATC

  1. Default Add On ATC

It's almost Birthday time and the Wife has uttered those immortal words......

"What do you want for your Birthday ?"

Now, I have numerous add on aircraft and scenery bits, REX, Active Sky, VRoute etc etc, but what I think my simming experience is really missing is decent air traffic control. I'm so fed up with the built in ATC I quite often just turn it off.

I've been reading up on Radar Contact 4 so my questions are............

1, Does anybody have any experience of Radar Contact 4 ?

2, Can anybody recommend any other ATC add ons ?

    Thanks in advance

    Hi there,
Also have a look at this PFE by Dave March.

It's a great program, I use it on a daily basis.
    Hope this help

    Default Add on ATC

    Hey Clyde

I've used Radar Contact 3 and 4. Both are excelent programs. They will get you there and back, from gate to gate.

I don't think that you will go wrong with Radar Contact ver. 4.

    Hi Clyde,

Seems from other threads that RC and PFE are the main candidates. There are a few online ATC services; at the risk of being shot down I'd say Vatsim is the most popular.

And to run the risk again I'd summarise by suggesting RC is better for procedures, PFE is better for regional voices and online services are the way to go if you want to interact with real people. They're all pretty good though.

There is a potential problem with the online service in that when you're flying in a particular region, all the controllers may be at work, in bed or down at the pub and you'll be left with either silence or an automated service.

Do some forum searches for 'Radar Contact', 'RC4', 'PFE', 'Proflight emulator' and 'Vatsim'. You'll get plenty of advice. There are even examples on YouTube...

The most recent thread I added to was on Avsim, at http://forum.avsim.net/topic/291514-fs2004-atc/ and gives a flavour of how people feel.

    Regards,
    Dave

    Thanks so far guys.

Not really keen on the online side of ATC. I had a bad experience with VATSIM a couple of years ago and was put off. Probably loads better now but I have invested heavily in AI stuff and also sometimes I just like to set the flight away and the get on with the many chores the wife gives me, then come back to the flight later - not too good if some bugger is trying to talk to me

Anyway, back to the point. I have found an review by AVSIM who say that RC4 is a very good program, sime minor niggles but nothing too serious.

I am erring on the side of RC4 at present but would like to hear from more pilots that have either program before making a decision as its not very often the boss allows flightsim spending - even on my birthday

Browse the RC forum on AVSIM.

Click on my tag below, go to the documentation page, and download the manual and tutorials. Also there should be a feature table..
