Thread: Flying Concorde in FS2004 Causes System Shutdown

  1. Default Flying Concorde in FS2004 Causes System Shutdown

I have used FS2004 for years now, and have never experienced this problem....hopefully, someone may be able to suggest a solution, or at least point me in a likely direction.

I recently downloaded two Concorde aircraft -- CONGA.ZIP was one, and the PM2 Concorde was the other. The installation went normally, and I had no problems loading either aircraft. I initiated a takeoff, set my GPS to a destination, and was off and running.

However, anywhere from 40 minutes into a flight, all the way up to several hours, and in some cases not until final approach -- my computer suddenly shut down (completely powered off) without any warning. I thought it might be caused by some cockpit switch setting, or perhaps occurred at only specific altitudes or airspeeds -- but there seems to be no rhyme or reason that is causing the sudden powerdown. I have noted that this problem only seems to happen with Concorde aircraft -- no other aircraft that I have in my collection causes this problem.

I am running with WindowsXP (Service Pack 3 installed) with FSUIPC Version 3 installed.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Midnight support here lol! Just need a little more info, are you sure that it is the aircraft causing your computer to shut down! I have heard of system crash where a bad texture or file in FS9 causes the sim to shut down and crash. But I have never heard of an addon causing a computer to crash.

You might want to anlayze what the exact time is that this occurs and if it is always occuring when using this addon. It may be a system setting (power settings) that is programmed to turn off your computer at certain hours of the day or night. You might want to check that out!

I use the conga Concorde and system or game crashes have never occured for me and I am using the same operating system as you! So look into those things for now, maybe later on someoneelse will be provide more troubleshooting techniques for you. Just providing you with what I would do in your situation!

    Cheers,

Thanks for your tip....but I am certain it is not a power issue. I double checked my settings anyway -- they were fine....set for continuous operation. As I stated, all of my other aircraft operate OK....everything was working fine until I started using the Concorde aircraft. While it may turn out to be another component that is causing the problem, for now, I have to proceed on the assumption that it is the aircraft that is doing it. Thanks again!

    Default Heating

Are you sure it's not a heat problem for the system. During the summer a dirty board and fans can seriously affect the CPU operation. Just a thought, but it can be a problem. Over heating can cause a variety of strange behaviours.

    Default Panel

More than likely it has to be the panel. Or rather, a guage(s) in that panel. Since it is for FS2k2 the best insurance is to not use the provided panel. Use the 737 panel. It works good enough to get me, and keep me, at 60,000 ft at M2.2. It works very good, even if it's for 2 engines. The secret ingredient is the fact that the 'default' gauges have already been tested and 'work' nice with FS9.

Thanks for your suggestion! I did find a Microsoft Knowledge Base article that specifically warns against overwriting gauge files when installing Concorde aircraft, which I believe may have happened.
