    Default Photo Real or Not???

Photo real is an interesting subject...having downloaded and used tons of the stuff over a period time, I have actually stopped using it. I do not fault anyone who takes the time to develop and share, or charge...it's just a matter of personal preference.

FWIW, even Tile Proxy, which I think is one of the better approaches to photo real, has its own technical limitations and requirements which I think makes it as much an experiment as a usable program addition. btw, i have tremendous respect for Christian and others who have done so much for the community to make it a reality.

The truth is that the hobby has made tremendous strides in realism of sky, clouds and water...as well as airport textures, runways, tarmacs...etc. But, I honestly think that as good as it is, most of our scenery still has a drawn in, if not cartoon like look. there are exceptions, and programs such as utx, gex, rex (all of which I use), have helped improve the visual look of simulated flight.

So, there is my two or three cents on the subject....the beauty of our hobby is its versatility and permutations for each of us.

    Well said Sherman....

I too love the look of Photo real. I used Tileproxy. I have however, started to miss the trees and night lighting, so have started to use the alternate, Megascenery Earth, and Megascenery, though not good in all places with that scenery.

I think what needs to be focused on is a more practical approach and realistic design to the scenery - PNW by orbx is one of those prime examples as to how real the scenery can look. I'm actually planning on reinstalling all my UT and GEX, just to have better textures along with parts not covered by photo real.

Made an interesting point in deed. More coverage areas are needed, but with the same original quality, i.e. Seasonal and night lighting, which sadly many developers such as items on the Aerosoft, as appealing as they do sound, some like flying in other times of days and seasons.

I agree. I really enjoyed using Tileproxy, though have not used it so much lately and I have photoscenery for the UK.

The ORBX method seems to be the way to go though. For anyone who hasn't tried it, download their Tasmania demo which provides the full scenery for Tassy with no limitations and should tempt a lot of people to buy their other sceneries.

Fly out of Hobart or Launy at dusk, it's so atmospheric.
