Thread: Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition

  1. Default Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition

Wow! that's all I can say. It just arrived today, having been released a couple of days ago. IRON CROSS is the standalone, expanded and enhanced version of ROF that came out last year, I believe. I tried the demo at that time, but passed on purchasing the full version because of the handful of flyables, having to buy additional planes, online entanglements just to play, no single player campaigns, and on and on.

Most of those problems have been fixed with Iron Cross. Out of the box, there are twice as many flyables as the regular ROF and hundreds of skins, both authentic and fictional. It is superb! I've been going through the training missions after trying multiplayer right away and crashing every time. Graphics are on the level of Wings of Prey. This is a real SIMULATION, not sim-lite like Third Wire's First Eagles. There's even a career mode.

The negative for some will be the system demands. The RECOMMENDED is an i7 at 2.9GHz, 4GB of RAM and a GTX 260 with a full gig of vid memory. Fortunately my system exceeds the recommended, so I've got everything cranked as high as it will go and there is nary a stutter in SP or MP.

ROF:Iron Cross is a fantastic WWI simulation, perhaps the best ever. It's hard core and drop dead gorgeous.

    Question Rof: Ice

    Hi Plainsman,

I already have Rise of Flight. Is it worth buying the Iron Cross Edition

Except for a couple aircraft included with ICE, your copy of ROF is exactly the same Paul as long as you have been doing the updates. You can purchase the additional aircraft from the ROF website relatively cheaply for what you get if you so desire.

As a side note - I am entirely impressed with the developers and the distributor. ROF a year ago was barely beta software, it has come forth in the past year to be one of the best WWI flight sims I have ever flown, and I have flown them all. The many improvements, additions, optimization and content that has been patched into the sim in the past year is nothing short of amazing. It aint perfect but I have no doubts the ROF team will continue to add and tweak, you can tell they 'love their baby'.

Thanks for the heads up Paxx...sounds like you pretty much like Rise of Flight. I haven't gotten into it much but looks like I will from here on out.

Rise of Flight: Iron Cross Edition. I have been playing the game which is fun except when I shoot at enemy aircraft there is no bullet damage or
explosions seen. I even aim at the assisted aim circle, but no bullet fire damage seem. Any help to get these effects would be appreciated.
Any body else having this problem.. I play quick mission with the Albatross FREE PLANE. Thanks

Dear friends, the case of RoF is plain and simple and just boils down to what happens when capitalism reaches Russia. It is totally unacceptable to pay extra for a finished programme and takes some nerves indeed to ask additional money for airplanes in a flight sim; I mean, airplanes!!! of all things.

But, as long as they get away with it, heck, why not? One born every minute... And it's a pity since it seems they have come up with a stellar product indeed. I refuse to be talked in by slimy tradefair con men, though.

Esteemed friends, this company's sales policy gets all the more painful if compared to Il-2, a flight sim that, may I kindly remind you, offered free planes and variations with every free update, patches released for the sole purpose of adding more for free, to better the game. For free. Because they respected the people who had bought their product. People. Not victims or milk cows.

Furthermore, dear simmers, I am surprised that so many, in various fora, side with the company. "You made a great piece of software, rape me n' my wife so that we can have it". With all respect, it makes me want to puke. What hope may there indeed be to whip a greedy company to shape if the customer so willingly relinquishes his only line of defence, the option not to buy. Very little indeed...

But, after all, it's just me..

Theplainsman, I take it Iron Cross is a sound investment? I like the old biplanes, and was the scourge of the Internet with the Red Baron series. My name then was 'Crittenden,' and got to the point where I'd post my callsign in a melee and many would bug out. Is Iron Cross Internet multiplayer capable? If it is, and it's as good as you say, 'Crittenden' will rise again! Do you suffer damage to your craft and cables and such? (and yeah, I was bragging; at my age I can't do much else ) I saw it at Best Buy the other day and the box looked pretty good.
    Thanks for mentioning it!

All the praise for ROF?. Not sure, you must have the computer connected to the web to register,or it won't work, even though you might not want to play on the web.
For three days I have been trying to control the aircraft within the responces section. All I get is the aircraft climbing like a homesick angel. Even allowing for tthe type of engine the aircraft wants to bank to the left and the instructions are cxxp.

Personally I'm not happy with it.
