Thread: FSX Fatal Error

  1. Default FSX Fatal Error

This is my first post on this forum, but I have been on Simviation for a long time and I know a lot about FSX. However, I have a problem with FSX that I can't solve and no one there can give me an answer. Recently a few updates to my ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 graphics card (as well as to Vista and some others) were downloaded by windows update. Since these updates, I have recieved fatal errors in FSX when I go into menus such as select aircraft or the map in the sim. Here is the error report from the Event Viewer:

    EventData

    fsx.exe
    10.0.61637.0
    46fadb14
    atiumdag.dll
    10.0.61637.0
    46fadb58
    c0000005
    00096a23
    1ac0
    01cb13fd5a2029b0

    And my system:

    Dell Inspiron E1705
    Genuine Intel(R) CPU T2250 @1.73GHz
    2GB RAM
    Windows Vista 32 bit
    ATI Mobility Radeon X1400

    I have FSX SP1, SP2, and Acceleration.

I've googled the issue and can't find a real answer. Thanks to anyone who can help.

    Hi Bvalvs,

    Welcome to the Forum,

Follow these threads as this seems to be the same problem as explained in various threads here. I also had the problem and it is all fixed now. http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=208864

    Kind Regards

    Bernie.

Hey thanks for the quick reply, but I've tried the solution described there and it did not work.

    Try updating your C++ libraries.

You want to download and install:
ENU (vcredist_x86.exe) NOTE: Or the one which is right for your OS language ENU= ENGLISH

    Unfortunately that did not work.

    Some other things to try.

Since you updated your video card driver have you saved your old fsx.cfg file as something else and let FSX generate a new one?

Vista/driver updates can be rolled back using a previous restore point, doing so might resolve your trouble.

Try uninstalling your present video card drivers and installing the most recent driver from Dell for your laptop. Generally speaking it is better to use your system manufacturer's drivers vs Microsoft hardware drivers.

I have created a new fsx.cfg and that didn't work. How do you uninstall drivers alone? I've thought of that but I can't seem to figure out how to do that.

I am not sure with ATI but you should have a All Programs>ATI>uninstall or Control Panel>Programs and Features listing to use. Using a registry cleaner, such as CCleaner, in Win Safe Mode after uninstalling and before reinstalling the new drivers may help resolve any registry issues that are lurking.

How about a system restore to a time prior to the windows updates? Then you could add back the updates one at a time and see if you can narrow down the issue.

Well, I found a way to uninstall the update and it seems to have worked. I only did a quick test now, but I'll really check later and let you know. Thanks guys.
