    Hi,

Get the file from the link that FlyStein mentioned. Do the following:

ISSUE: FSX WILL NOT START AFTER NEW INSTALL – ERROR 1722

Problem: After a new installation in FSX, error message appears upon first launch of the program:

    Flight Simulator cannot write FSX.cfg.

This appears to be a licensing issue related to the web page http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080/en-us. With this procedure, you will be accepting the license agreement before installing FSX. If FSX is already installed, uninstall it. Do the following:

BEFORE THE LIST BELOW, MAKE SURE YOUR C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Local Settings\Temp folder is clear.

    1. In your normal user, go to step 2 and follow from that point. If it does not work, then Create a new user with Administrative privileges.
    2. Go to msconfig (Start>Run>msconfig>OK), choose, ‘Selective Startup.’
    3. In the 'General' tab, uncheck all except 'Load System Services'.
    4. In the 'Services' tab, check 'Hide all Microsoft services.' Uncheck what services that are left. Reboot the computer.
    5. Log into the new user. Follow the directions to the letter given at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928080/en-us
    6. Install FSX normally. In the install, I select 'install for all users'. FSX should run fine with no problems. If you have FS9 installed as well, the next time you run it, you will probably have to accept the FS9 license agreement again.

You should then be able to delete the new user and reset your prior settings in msconfig.

This should take care of the issue. You can also do a search for 'error 1722' in these forums.

    Hope it helps!

    Cheers,
    Mike T.
