Thread: malware in download?

  1. Question malware in download?

    Hi all,

I've been using this excellent site for several years now and downloaded countless files during that time, so when my antivirus software (BullGuard 8.7) flagged a recent download as containing a trojan I was somewhat confused.

I decided to err on the side of caution and delete the file without further infection, but I can only assume that it was a false positive as I've never previously had any issues with the files on this site.

The file in question is a Dornier 328 for FSX: "do328j_3_x.zip". Like I said, I assume the warning to be a false positive, but having only recently had to format my HD after another virus found its way in, I'm not taking any chances. Has anyone else had any issues with this file?

On a separate note as a long-time user of the site I'd like to express my thanks to those who continue to support and develop the site and its files!

    Regards,
    alex2497

I hope that sucker can't do anything 'til it is unzipped. I downloaded it before and hadn't unzipped it. I had my security software scan the zipped file and returned virus found "Trojan.Spanish.B" I deleted it also and am going to run all my scanners...Don

[edit]comp is clean, Doggone it, I flew on a Midwest Connect F/D 328 from Flint to Milwaukee a few years ago and was impressed with the plane.

funnily enough that's the same trojan that my software identified. I guess the likelihood is that the file is infected then. Shame, it looked like a nice addon!

That's very unlikely. Every single file on this website is individually opened and scanned by the admins before being hosted. I suspect that this aircraft contains some C gauge code which the scanner is mistakenly picking up as a virus.

I have a web design program, no less, which sometimes gets picked up by the virus checker because of one bit of code in it. I've even had my own code flagged before!

    Hello!

Well, I just downloaded the file in question, and had my Norton Security Suite scan the entire folder... it came out clean. Of course, since I don't run FSX, I deleted it.

You very well might have gotten a false positive on this one... as FO Jevans said FlightSim does a good job of scanning uploads.

    Just my 2¢ worth,

    Alan

Thanks Guys, I've been downloading here since the site's beginnings and have never had a single issue with a download. I've had a couple of malware issues, from other download sites. Better safe than sorry...Thanks again...Don

I have also downloaded the above Dornier file and also have the Spanish B Trojan. It seems to be slowing down my Gmail and has switched off my antivirus software. I have manually reactivated the antivirus it but it is unable to remove it.

    Beware!!!

I have downloaded the file and scanned with AVG. Nothing inside.

I have HDs in trays so I can quick swap. I have one that has nothing but the OS and AVG/F-Secure/Avast I very carefully Virus Scanned each folder and cab until I found the culprit "BeacLts_swn.xml" I copied it to a Floppy(yep, still have one) renamed to "Test.txt" and opened it within DOS editor (Diff Comp). It is just plain old .xml. I then deleted the unzipped mess I made and installed normally. I now have a neat Fairchild/Dornier 328 in 3 Liveries!!! Thanks to those that gave me the opinion that it was only a false positive. easymanhugo, you must have gotten your virus elsewhere. As a gauge designer I can unequivocally state that there is no malicious code in that file...Don

Now all I have to do is figure out how to make my anti-virus quit warning me every time I start FSX!!

[edit]I use F-Secure on the system that has FSX installed. If you use F-Secure you have to hunt down the Ignore/Exclude objects link: Navigate; Settings, Computer > Virus and spyware scanning, Open excluded items list(Link at bottom of page), Add(tab) you now have a dropdown that you can select anything you want ignored.
