There really should be very few issues if you installed FS9 outside of either of the two "Program files" folders - i.e. in a new folder here: C:\FSGames.

That will eliminate a great many of the "headaches" associated with Win 7 "permission" issues.

    Just a thought.

My "day to day" FS setup (both FS2004 and FSX) is on an XP machine - however I did set up both versions on my wife's new Win 7 64 bit machine as a "test" after doing a good deal of reasearch on the various forums.

The concensus seems to be that installing in a location other than under Program files - perhaps on your C drive or on another partition - is a very wise thing to do.

If you have it installed in the default location now and have a lot of addons installed also, and it is working reasonably well, I think I would be inclined to leave it alone for the present.

If at some time in the future your are "forced" (by a vorus attack or some other major problem) to start all over, then I certainly would consider installing to a different location as so many are now recommending.

Perhaps the best advice would be to do some research yourself - there are numerous posts here regarding this issue and there is a dedicated Win 7 forum at Avsim.com. I posted the exact process I used in that forum.

Understanding the various settings (such as Right clicking on the FS shortcut and setting it to "run as adminstator" under the Compatibility tab) will help avoid the nagging "security" checks built into Win 7.

Hope these rambling thoughts are useful.

I hope you did not just "delete" your FS2004 folder.

Please take the time to download and read this following un-install and re-install guide:

It is very important to un-install properly (using the un-install routine) and then clean up (delete) the various files and folders which are left behind by the un-install routine.

The above recommended guide explains all of this.

I find this hard to believe!

I have a paid edition of FS Navagator in FS9 in my new computer with win7/64. My old computer went bad and I had a computer shop copy my files off the hard drive.

When I loaded up FS9 on this new computer all I did was copy the FS Navigator folder into the Modules folder and it works fine. Unlike most programs, I believe the permission file is imbedded into the FS Navigator files somewhere so you don't have to download it again and reinstall into the new computer like other programs.

You might want to try it.

Also, like David said, install your FS on the C: drive in a new folder instead of in the Programs Files (86x) folder which requires all kinds admin permissions to edit files, etc.
