Thread: Autoland Problem

  1. Default Autoland Problem

I've noticed a few times, when on an ILS approach, that I'll capture the localizer and the autopilot altitude will disengage way before the glideslope. This forces me to disengage the autopilot altogether and fly a visual approach. Does anyone know why this happens? Thanks.

Don't forget there's no such thing as autoland in vanilla FSX - you have to fly the plane to the runway after the decision height.
I fly through the valley of death, but I fear no evil, for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. Let's powerdive and scare that poor soul in that Ultralight there.

I think I know what's causing this... When in GPS (vs. NAV) mode, when you hit the Approach button on the A/P the "Alt. Hold" WILL disengage. While in NAV mode the Alt. Hold should remain on - this has been my experience at least.

Make sure you've got the correct ILS Frequency set in NAV 1 AND, big AND, your switched (back) over to NAV on the NAV/GPS selector knob.

Sorry if I kind of hijack this thread but,
Could someone explain how to do an ILS landing?
(maybe what kind of airplane is best & step by step if possible)
    Thanks in advance !

    Hi Ken,

I would suggest looking at the learning centre in FSX and you will find lessons that will introduce flying procedures from basic to advanced. This is probably the best method for learning.

    Kind Regards
