Thread: Unable To Install Flight Simulator X: Deluxe Edition

  1. Exclamation Unable To Install Flight Simulator X: Deluxe Edition

    Hey guys,

I have been searching for hours on end looking for a solution to this problem. But I have found NOTHING. >,< I've talked to Microsoft, but they haven't even been able to fix it. I've come to the conclusion that re-formatting my hard-drive(s) is the only option. But I thought I would see if any one else has had the same problem and resolved it. I will try and provide as much information as I can. =) Thanks.

A while back ago I uninstalled Flight Sim for some reason that I don't remember (This has been awhile ago, maybe 9-10 months ago), and I tried to reinstall it. But I've been receiving a message that says "The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. F:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi". And I've gone through probably EVERY single Google search result and I've found absolutey NOTHING. >,<

I'll give you a step-by-step explanation of what I'm doing and what happens. I'll try to include pictures and maybe a video so you can see what's happening in real-time.

First, I put the first DVD into one of my two DVD drives. (One is LightScribe and the other is not). I don't know the exact manufacturers or models, but I can get those if you absolutely need it.

    It starts loading and everything...

And then this message comes up...

The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and that you can access it. F:\Microsoft Flight Simulator X.msi
And that is as far as it gets. =(

The DVD is in fair condition, a few scratches here-and-there, but other than that it's fine.

Thank you soooo much you guys. I do hope I can get this fixed. I really want to fly! =D

Have you tried dumping yr CD to yr hard disk and install FSX from that folder? If it doesn't work, at least you'll know the CD is/is not OK.

    Yes, I have tried this...

I've also tried downloading the DVD from a torrent, and I still got the same error...

Don't worry, I deleted it... I no longer have that copy. Lol. =)

Run the Microsoft installer repair tool. Google it.

Also - is F: your DVD drive or the "old" installation drive?

Have you tried disabling whatever anti-virus program you have running? Do you have any CD/DVD burning programs that have a process running in the background?

I have not. But I will. And I do have CD/DVD burning programs running... I will end those processes and try it. =) Thanks.

Okay, I've turned off/ended all CD/DVD burning processes and I've disabled my anti-virus/firewall. I still have the problem. =/

I have Norton Internet Security... by the way. Lol.

I had this problem a couple of years ago. Went to Microsoft support and was informed that my installation code had expired and I would have to get a new one. The support person directed me to another support group, perhaps a security group. I advised of my situation and was informed that if I reinstalled FSX more than three times it would invalidate the installation code. They verified that mine was a legitimate copy then gave the new code. I then tried to reinstall and it wouldn't work. Went back to the original support contact who had sent me an email confirming our conversation. I gave her access to my computer for about five minutes while she did some sort of tweaking. I then was able to reinstall. Supposedly, the new code is good for two more installs. Haven't needed to reinstall since this happened.

I think I worked through the Microsoft Games support group when I originally made contact about the problem.

Can't remember all the details but I think you gotta find someone at Microsoft who is familiar with FSX.

I remember being very frustrated until I got hold of the support girl and she really knew her stuff. Took about an hour to get everything reinstalled and running again.
