Default Reducing payware AC texture quality

Hello all, I have the Flight1 PC-12 and notice I get significantly lower FPS than with my Eaglesoft CJ1 and have to move many sliders to the left to get the same FPS.

My question is can you manually edit some of the texture files for a payware aircraft to increase performance? I fly in the VC and don't really need to have a fancy cabin or other features so I'd like to maybe reduce the texture sizes of some of the PC12's files but I don't want to do anything before I know for sure I won't be ruining an AC.

Has anyone done this or have any advice as to whether or not this will work?

    Thank you and happy flying

Textures might have some impact, but if I understand correctly how things work, I think it's all the polygons being modeled in the actual model itself that cause those kind of AC to bog a system down. Just the price to be paid for highly detailed landing gear/etc. I guess.

Like the previous poster said, unless you are running an extremely old video card, it's more likely that the polygons are causing the problem. Once the CPU loads the textures into the VC, it's the video card's job to render them. With Polygons, once the polygon is created, it must be constantly moved, a much harder job than continuously rendering a texture on a flat surface.

hmm that makes sense. I have a 1GB Radeon and usually have scenery settings pretty high but for some reason the PC-12 just doesnt let me keep my high settings. I guess I will just have to settle with medium settings. thanks for the help guys!

If the textures are 32 bit you can use DXTBmp to lower them to DXT 5. As a painter I always save in 32 bit because DXT 5 trashes fine text and details but it will give you better FPS.

I fI may also, make sure you update your Radeon drivers. Old drivers will most probably have poorer performance than newer ones.
