    Default Megascenery

My rig is like this...2.80gigahertz Intel Core i7 930 with a bunch of ram and 64 bit ready. ASUS TeK Rampage II Gene rev 2.xx And I'm running windows 7 Home premium (x64) (build 7600) and I have no idea what all that means...lol

So I ordered the Epic Lt Dynasty and loaded it but couldn't find it in FSX. Contacted support, they advised to look in FSX under x86 directory and load it there instead of in FSX directory...It Worked!!

Now I'm loading megascenery from a cd and am wondering should I do the same thing?? only thing is...when I look in the x86 directory I don't know which file I should load it into. Should I install it in "Addon scenery" and will it install properly?? Sure could use some help.

    Default Megascenery

I've got the Megascenery Southern Cal loaded in my PC (3.4G, HD 5770) but got it unchecked in the FSX Scenery Library. The software has caused large patches of green and brown around the runways. It also caused the landing gears to look like they are half buried in mud. Once up in higher altitudes however, the terrain looks much improved compared to the default. But the totally unsatisfactory scenery around runways was a sure disappointment. I'm looking for a much better scenery software.

I used MegaSceneryEarth with FSX and sp1 (Deluxe version) with no problems. MSE is a huge improvement over the default terrain. It's photoreal, so it's accurate.

Then I installed FSX sp2 and Acceleration (FSX Gold version). Now I am having problems at some runways. It's as though portions of the runway are covered with mud. Actually, I think the problem is that the MegaSceneryEarth runway is located below the default surface.

MegaSceneryEarth has a "sunken runway" patch for this problem. But I installed the patch with no results (maybe I did something wrong with the patch installation?). This sunken runway issue might not be a problem with MegaSceneryX, I don't know. (The patch is offered for MegaSceneryEarth, not for MegaSceneryX).

Oddly, this sunken runway problem is intermittent. It occurs at some runways, and not at others. It will occur at a runway, and then sometimes correct itself. If I disenable the MegasceneryEarth in the Scenery Library, then the default runways are fine. When I take off and view a runway from the air, the runway will correct itself and look good. But then when I descend to low altitude, the runway will become covered with mud again.

This is frustrating because I otherwise like Megascenery. Sometimes I have resorted to landing on the taxiways, which are unaffected by this problem. I have discovered one way around the problem, which is a nuisance, but works. If I load a flight in the air at a distant airport, and then slew the aircraft to the airfield where I want to fly, that runway will be fine for the remainder of the flight. Somehow, slewing seems to get the MegaSceneryEarth runway and underlying ground in the proper positions.

I hope someone can come up with a solution to this problem, and offer some ideas why the patch doesn't seem to work.

I have SoCal and get similar problems, as if the runway textures are almost exactly coincident, but the texture kind of peels on and off as you move along the runway. Not a really big deal, as most of the airports look rubbish at ground level anyway once you've gotten used to something decent like FTX. For me, the Megascenery SoCal works best when you're flying at a couple of thousand feet with realistic weather, in which case it's very close to how it looks in real life.

I experience default fsx textures in some spots all throughout megascenery socal for some reason. I have reinstalled serveral times and it doesnt fix the issue. I have tried to contact them but their support forums have been down for weeks and there doesnt appear to be any other way to contact them. Are they going out of business? Because there's no way that they dont know that their forums are down at this point.

The developer and publisher of the Megascenery I believe are in down under in Australia. I've tried everything to contact them about the problem but no response. None in the Megascenery forum seem to know what to do. Although the software is still on sale, at least at Frys Electronics.

Their website is at megasceneryearth.com. Their scenery is being marketed at pcaviator.com. Megascenery keeps developing scenery for new geographic areas, so as far as I can tell, it is still a going concern.

    Have you all....

Raised the order of the Megascenery Scenery areas to the top priority of the Scenery Library? That could be causing your problems.

Also, if you know the airport, one thing I had to do for KSFZ out of RI with Megascenery earth is create a "Flatten" File for it which fixed some sink holes in the area.

If you would like, if it's a particular airport you're flying in and out of, I have AFX and don't mind creating that "Flatten" file for you - you can PM Me here in the forums.

Just bear in mind, when it gets closer to Starship release, I might not be able to get it done right away, or at all near that point in August.

Let me know if I can help you all...
