Thread: Abacus USA/World Extreme Landscape

    Default Abacus USA/World Extreme Landscape

I'd appreciate your pros and cons on this software. I got Megascenery So Cal loaded now and it stinks. Is this terrain software any better? Also some comments the Abacus Flight Deck 6? I had problems with the FD 5.

    Thumbs down

I tried it and uninstalled it by the end of the day. For me it was a total waste of money and time. I got what i will call terrain spikes all over. I had most of my airports sitting on plateaus, places that i knew to be flat now had ridges and cliffs. Of all the add-ons I have ever spent money on for FSX, this was the biggest waste. Perhaps the problems had to to do with my system configuration as I have not seen any complaints about the product. Perhaps no one else bought it.
Bottom line is it was pure junk on my system.

My comments here are in reference to Abacus USA/World Extreme Landscape.

I use it, as I think it adds a worthwhile realism to mountain details but, as you said, there are too many disagreements with the default scenery elevations at airports. I would replace it, if I could find (and trust) a better mesh program.

    Default Abacus USA/World Extreme Landscape

Romeo Tango: Were you talking about the Megascenery or the Abacus Extreme Landscape. I concur that the Megascenery So. Cal was a rip off. There several derogatory remarks about it since its outset. I even tried to contact PC Aviator which I believe was located somewhere else other than the US. I have reservations about the Abacus products also. Their FD 5 contain some weird scenes such as when I was landing on the carrier, some ediotic pilot cut in in front of me, or as I was making a landing, there was an aircraft parked by the cables, and other weird things. Now Abacus comes up with the FD 6 which at forty bucks a wack could be just as bad. It's hard enough to get good technical support. I think that Abacus should take their software thru the wringer before putting it out in the market.

FS Genesis has a good mesh for the US. 9.6m resolution for the United States and decent mesh for the rest of the world as well. (www.fsgenesis.com)

Thanks John, but are there many elevation anomalies at airports?

None that I've found. They actually have a very finished product. I've been very happy I spent the money. It is a 'must have' add-on for me. Always the second thing I load after the acceleration pack. No spikes - smooth terrain transistions on runways and very detailed throughout Alaska, Hawaii and Canada as well as US.

A simple sentence: Abacus products are not worth the money. We had a similar discussion in a thread a while back. Ive found freeware better than their stuff. Heres the thread http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showth...=205689&page=2

Some may agree some may dont. Its just my opinion. For example here is some panel work by them

Yeah the only abacus products I bought were the A380 one and EZ-Scenery and I was sorry I begged and pleaded with my grandparents (who raised me) to buy the A380 one for me. EZ Scenery was easy to use, but it wasn't great if you wanted to upload your work here or somewhere else unless you wanted to include the libraries with it. Ever since then I wont buy another FS add-on unless it gets raving reviews. Thats why I'm always asking around here.

  10. Default Uninstall?

Romeo Tango, or anyone who can help.
I installed it and have terrible results. Many airports now sit up on plateaus and some have what locks like dirt dams all around the property.
How do I uninstall this? I do not see anything in the FSX Scenery Settings to delete. I thought it would be an addon, but now I think it changed my default scenery files. Do I have to uninstall the complete FSX program to get rid of it?
    Thanks.
