When landing a plane like the Grumman Goose on water, at what point do you lower the wing tip floats? Seems like they could rip off easily if the landing wasn't perfect...Do you lower them after landing or before? Thanks,
Steve

You have the floats extended for landing.

Ouch.
Last September the wife and I took an Alaska cruise. At Ketchikan we took a Dh Beaver float plane flight into Misty Fjords. I got to sit in the right hand seat for the water takeoff.
The pilot did a high speed step taxi to get to the right end of the lake to takeoff into the wind. When he started his 180 turn, he was going 35 KIAS, and increased the speed through the turn so the plane lifted off just after finishing the turn.
We had talked about FSX and how it compares to the real Beaver. His comment to me after the takeoff was "I haven't been able to do that in FSX."

Worst parallel parking job I've ever seen!

Okay I pasted in the wrong Youtube code, Reggie showed how to do it properly..
Beats me why the Goose pilot in the vid didn't close the throttles as soon as things started to go wrong..
I think he was too busy trying to get the plane back in a straight path to take his hands off the yoke and grab the throttles.

His starboard wingtip float was flapping about pretty bad.
EDIT- This sounds like the crash in the video-
"Approaching Tamarindo, the pilot started a right turn to follow the
estuary, but his height was insufficient. Presumably he suddenly became
aware of the power lines which cross the river at that point, and was
forced to fly below them. The right pontoon caught the water, and jerked
the aircraft to the right. Overcorrecting, the pilot put the left float
into the water, and the aircraft swerved to that side.
Gibson applied full take-off power to get the aircraft back into the air,
but it careered from the river onto the beach, where it ground-looped and
came to a stop. The whole incident was filmed, and eventually became part
of the movie."
