Question Dont have any fancy painting progamme, what do I do?

Is there a way of painting aiarcraft without photoshop or paintshop pro.
I have no in depth knowledge of using them so I was wondering if there was a simpler soloution for painting/repainting.
Thanks for your help and understanding.

    Oh yes...

You'll find that a great number of repainters don't use photoshop, because it's expensive. No matter. The first program you need is DXTbmp. This allows you to read and write all the special FS formats and alpha channels and suchlike.

Then, simply add the drawing/paint program of your choice. Heck, you can even use Windows Paint if you want, but you'll want at least the improved Paint.NET as a minimum.

Most, however, would go with GIMP, a very, very powerful image editor and creator. It's not quite as easy to use as Photoshop, but it's just as powerful.

And the best thing is, all those programs are free! I use DXTbmp+GIMP 2.6.

    Thumbs up Thanx

    I have paint.net,
Thankyou very much. Now for some practice, I might just take the default Fs9 Boeing 737, see what I can do with that!

Yes, that'll do fine to start off with. If you grow out of Paint.net, then you can think about moving up to GIMP or something - it is a bit confusing at first.

Are you opening the textures in DXTBmp first, then opening the GIMP or paint.net from DXTBmp? That's the important bit. You mustn't just directly open the textures - you have to go through DXTBmp.

You're sure you're not opening the alpha channel? That's the thing in the top right of the DXTBmp screen. That might be pure white. You want to be opening the main image through the buttons located down at the bottom left.
