I have aircraft on FS9, that would be fantastic in FSX, I tried installing it, but it wont work.
Hows best to go about updating those aircraft. As I dont have to much programming knowledge.
Thanks for hep and advice.

Well, we need to know more information...Some FS9 aircraft work without a hitch in FSX, and some need more work, but most can be persuaded to work with a little time.
What exactly doesn't work about it?
I fly through the valley of death, but I fear no evil,for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. Let's powerdive and scare that poor soul in that Ultralight there.
sorry, I should have been more specific.
I downoaded two aircraft from this website:
http://www.dmflightsim.co.uk/bac_1-11.htm
I downloaded two versions of the BAC 1-11,
I installed them to the necessary location, but they don't appear in my aircraft list.
Hawkeye,
Went and downloaded and extracted zip files. Here's the 'scoop' on that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
BAC 111, by David Maltby, UK.
(1). Panel is aliased to 'shared' folder. Get your own panel.
(2). Sound is aliased to 'shared' folder. Get your own sound.
So, if you don't have those 'shared' folders, then you won't get sound, or panel. And, in FSX, if you don't have a panel, the a/c won't 'show'. Download one from the same site.
(3). Add this line under (General) section of cfg: 'Category=Airplane' : (without it, port-overs will never 'work' in FSX).
(4). The 'checklist' and 'ref' files are also aliased to 'shared' folder, so they won't show either on your kneepad. You can put the cklist and ref files in main folder (where cfg and air file are) and that will 'fix' that.
(5). Then you need a 'thumbnail.jpg' (it goes in the texture folder) to get a 'pic' of the specific paint in the 'Select Aircraft' window. Make one after you get folders fixed and and you get the One Eleven flying.
(6). You won't be able to 'shoot' an ILS due to the radios. Guess the 'real' Bac did not
have AP? If you want to be able to do 'gildeslope' approach then use these (Radios) in cfg:
[Radios]
// Radio Type=availiable, standby frequency, has glide slope
Audio.1=1
Com.1=1,1
Com.2=1,1
Nav.1=1,1,1
Nav.2=1,1,0
Adf.1=1
Transponder.1=1
Marker.1=1
(7). And later you might want to add 'Camera Views' from a simular a/c. Try these.
[CameraDefinition.0]

You can 'copy' the text (that's all it is) from this post and 'paste' into aircraft.cfg and then do 'Save'. That's it. But as you can see it is not 'obvious' what has to be done but it can be 'figured' out if you know what is 'required' by FSX. Hope the model is 'accepted' by FSX as sometime it does not. Also the panel gauges can not be older dated (ie: 2003 or even 2004) as that will cause you problems with FSX asking you if you trust EACH gauge. So beware. Best to use the King Air 350 panel and sound, for now, just until you figure out which panel and which sound works. Did I leave anything out? Oh, yeah. I use PayPal (hehe).

PS: I did NOT use 'Texture Converter'. This exe will convert textures to low fps inpact DXT type textures. Your choice. And, he states the the dynamics are 'optimized' for FS9 ONLY, so you might have some 'issues' with handling. But, then again, maybe not. Cheers.

Other things you will need to do.. my edits have been for the 510ED version
In the DMFS Shared Files folder. Go to the Panel folder of the aircraft you downloaded and you will need to edit the DM_1-11_sound.ini file, Open it and edit the directory listings for sound so it looks like this, Please note you are only editing the main directory path from /aircraft/ to /SimObjects/airplanes/
[Sounds]
Sound00=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/ALERT.wav
Sound01=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/BEEP.wav
Sound02=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/FIRE.wav
Sound03=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/HORN.wav
Sound04=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/STALL.wav
Sound05=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/SPEED.wav
Sound06=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/VOICE_V1.wav
Sound07=./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files/BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC/VOICE_VR.wav
Then open the panel .cfg in the same folder and edit this line so it points to the correct directory, your aircraft might be different than mine as i use the 500ED version but this is the important bit to change "/SimObjects/airplanes/" as that points it all to the correct directory.
gauge33=dsd_xml_sound3!dsd_xml_sound3, 2,2,5,5,./SimObjects/airplanes/DMFS Shared Files\BAC 1-11 510ED Panel VC\DM_1-11_sound.ini
Next go to the aircraft folder and open aircraft.cfg, Under the smokesystem title you will to edit it so it looks like this
[SMOKESYSTEM]
Smoke.0= -30.10, -7.08, 3.05, DM_1-11_SMOKE_R
Smoke.1= -30.10, 7.08, 3.05, DM_1-11_SMOKE_L
Smoke.2= -30.10, -7.08, 3.05, DM_1-11_SMOKE_R
Smoke.3= -30.10, 7.08, 3.05, DM_1-11_SMOKE_L
I do have the BAC 1-11 working in fsx and it all works by doing the edits posted here, there is no issues that i have seen with the VC, sound and gauges and effects as long as you do the edits correctly. When you get this aircraft working and you go for your first flight, you will need to configure it for flight but there is an interactive checklist for you to use.
Here are some images to show you that the VC and lights etc.. work in fsx

Depends what you want to do with them, for example I do most of my FSX flying from the external view and hardly ever bother getting into the cockpit to play with all the fancy buttons and stuff in there, so I don't really care if panels don't show up good in imported FS9 kites.
As long as the external view graphics are okay I'm laughing, and in that respect a lot of FS9 machines look okay in FSX, although some have weird-looking prop disks, but that can usually be rectified with a bit of file tweaking.
You've nothing to lose by importing FS9 stuff to see if it works..![]()
Gandy,
Even I won't do all that work. That is why I suggested he use the KA350 panel and sound so he did not have to deal with that panel.ini stuff. This is not really necessary unless you are going to get all of David Maltby's paints, panels, etc.
I don't like this 'alias' stuff for the panels. Anyway I have my all my 'add on' aircraft in 'FS9 Aircraft' and 'FSX Aircraft' folders and not in 'SimObjects\Airplanes' folder. All I do is add 'path' in FSX.cfg and it works. All that is in 'SimObjects\Airplanes' folder are the default a/c. Nothing else. That way when I want to do a re-install I can back up those 2 folders and since the 'airplanes' folder was not messed with, it don't need to be messed with when I do back up. Plan ahead.

PS: USE THE LEAR PANEL AND SOUND (and not the KA350) AS IT'S 'JET' ENGINE (and not prop). Sorry about that.

The 510, and 300/400 work fine now I didn't actually need to make those panel/sound edits, I simply put it together as I would normally. I'm going to be greedy and download the other versions like the 200
Very grateful.
