Thread: A few general questions...

  1. Default A few general questions...

My first 3 questions are about the PMDG 747:-

    1. I have a saved panel that is set for Dark and Cold. When setting up my flight I load this dark and cold panel state. This has all settings like fuel pumps set to off and has around 30% fuel set. When I am doing a long flight (from dark and cold) I have to adjust the fuel in the plane (via PMDG / Aircraft fuel menu options). When I do this it automatically changes my panel state to have all the fuel pumps turned on. I don't want this to automatically turn them on as I do this as part of my startup checklist. Is there a way to get around this?

    2. Also when I start from dark and cold on a night flight, I can see anything in the cockpit. I can sometimes find the "Battery" switch but its not until I start the APU that any real lights come on in the cockpit. Surely this can't be real life?? How do I request external power in the PMDG 747? Or should I be starting the APU before Bus Ties, Generator Control switches etc?

    3. When setting up from dark and cold, I do the following to aligh the IRS:-

    a. Ensure all 3 IRS are OFF
    b. Turn all 3 to NAV then back to ALIGN
    c. Go to FMC and copy the GPS coordinates to the Set IRIS Position
    d. Turn back all 3 to NAV

I have it set to instant align but its not until I go and set this again in the FMC that it actually aligns which my documentation doesn't tell me to do and if I don't do it, it never seems to aligh? Am I missing a step?

My 3rd question isn't specific to the PMDG 747 but I would more than likely be flying it at the time:-

    4. I am comfortable in flying from A to B using IFR, programmed FMC and ATC to bring me down. What I am not so good at is flying the plane on final without using the localiser and glideslope. I tend to come down to fast or be too high. I use the papi lights on the runway but find myself needing to speed up to late etc.. I therefore want to practice touch and go's but don't really know what the procedure is. When I take off what altitude should I get to, how far before first turn, then how long before next etc. when best to turn back to base leg etc, altitude on final, are they all right angle turns, what speed etc..?? Sorry for all the questions on this...

Is there a tutorial for touch and go's?

    Thanks

There are some touch and go lessons, if you go to the help center>Lessons tab> scroll down to the touch and go lesson.
I fly through the valley of death, but I fear no evil, for I am at 80,000 feet and climbing. Let's powerdive and scare that poor soul in that Ultralight there.
