Default RTW Retro Flight #8 –Hong Kong, Kai Tak to Singapore, Paya Lebar . . 1964

Today we’re leaving Hong Kong’s Kai Tak for Singapore’s Paya Lebar (VHHX to WSAP). We are departing at 8:40 a.m. in a thunderstorm. Flight time for the 1,394 mile flight is about five and a half hours. We have 3,860 gallons of fuel on board for the trip.

    Thanks to:
Aircraft: Cathay Pacific Airlines Douglas DC-6B - Tom Gibson and Greg Pepper's GMAX model. Paint by Marv Van De Weert.
Propliner AI & Traffic: CalClassic & FS Aviator - Tom Gibson, Mike Stevens, Jason Krogmann, Manuel Jagmann, Bill Towers, Nikko Yaginuma, Richard Wright, Frederick Coleman, Dave Jones, Paul Haak, Marty Lochmiller, Ake Lindberg, Harland Sandberg, Richard Wright and Gary Harper.
    Scenery: FS9 Standard, plus:
Hong Kong Kai Tak 1963 by Tom Gibson and Jim Vile. Mesh files by Holger Sandmann.
Singapore, Paya Lebar 1961 by Wolfgang Gersch.
Also using scenery from Rwy12 and EZ scenery libraries.
HDE 1.0 Clouds by Pablo Diaz.

    1. Passengers have boarded, doors closed and we’re starting engine 1.

    2. ATC provides initial flight instructions and ground gives us taxi clearance.

    3. It’s a long taxi down to Rwy. 31. You can see the curved approach lights for Rwy. 13 to our rear.

    4. We’re off and the gear is coming up as we head toward the city and Lion Head Hill.

    5. With the hill behind us we’re at 4,000 feet and continuing to climb.

    6. Now at 6,500 feet heading on a southwest course of 220 toward Singapore.

    7. Above the scud over Lamma Island, we’ve leveled off at ten thousand feet to switch the blowers to high. We then resume our climb to FL170.

    8. We’re now just beyond the islands southwest of Hong Kong and are cruising at about 205 KIAS.

    9. Continuing our cruise over the South China Sea near the Paracel Islands and we are about 275 miles east of Da Nang, Vietnam.

    10. We’re crossing the eastern edge of Vietnam near Tuy Hoa about 150 miles northwest of Saigon.

Default RTW Retro Flight #8 –Hong Kong, Kai Tak to Singapore, Paya Lebar . . . . . . .1964

    11. The Coco Beach Resort at Phan Thiet, Viet Nam is 20 miles to starboard beneath the clouds.

    12. We’re now 200 miles northeast of Singapore. The weather is OK up here.

    13. Fifty five miles out of Singapore we receive instructions to begin our descent.

    14. At ten thousand feet we near the coast. The clouds are becoming thicker, and the ride is bumpy.

    15. Singapore ATC provides a course change. The weather forecast at Paya Lebar is for moderate to heavy thunderstorms.

    16. We’re five miles out and passing over the Singapore River in moderate rain.

    17. Flaps full and gear down we’re on short final to Rwy. 20 at Paya Lebar.

    18. A few feet from touchdown.

    19. Off the runway and taxiing toward the terminal.

    20. Engines shut down and passengers disembarked. Thanks for flying Cathay Pacific.

Fantastic set Larry. Great livery on that one.
The pilot is bound only by his mind and his machine. We must expand the mind before we expand the machine, and by expanding the mind, we may expand the machine. Our mind is being expanded by the sim. It is not a game.

Nice flight. Reminds me of the 'Monsoon Approach' mission in FSX .
