Default FSW New Cloud In Progress

Hi,
I am working hard even if my time is limited to finish them, cloud still in progress and those are only 3 pack and few others so here clouds in progress. You can and you should make them higher in feet with the weather option. I have much more clouds like , Cumulus, Cb, T-Storm and the mid/high level clouds, but not showed still in progress...Don't tell me when they will be all released I don't know. Here some beta clouds in progress

Part I

Part II
http://fsw.simflight.com/cld2.html

Part III
http://fsw.simflight.com/cld3.html

Ps: the zoom in those shots are at minist ( - ) to see all the view, so they can appears stretched, but in normal view they look ok.

Thanks
Chris Willis

Hi Chris. You specialize in the area that I enjoy most about flight--the scenery of the skies. I especially like the last shots in both the first and third links; the last one in the first link (with the jet) is very similar to some of the towering cumulus clouds previewed in CFS3--but it's actually better, with its bright white appearance and detailed textures.

But what I'm wondering is if you're still limited by the FS engine. When I aim my plane into some clouds they usually part like curtains and rotate around the plane just as I reach them, though in some cases there's white-out before the plane reemerges. Will your new clouds work the same way? Isn't that a limitation in FS, or have you found some way around that?

wow very nice. I paint clouds alot in my Architectural Renderings, and it does take time to figure out what makes a cloud LOOK like a cloud, ur on the right track. When you've mastered the white ones, theres some with a touch of blue, and gold(yellow), and warm grey, and cool grey. Hey are you going to invent sunset clouds??...hmmmm, anyway great job!!

Wonderful clouds!!!!!!!!!!
Hope to download them soon. ;)

For PAUL_W:

It's not a limit, I think it's a bug of FS2002.
You see the clouds bidimensional it happens because you have the small red number on top left of the screen.
(The numbers you have pressing SHIFT+Z I mean, the Frame rate indicator.)
If you SHIFT+Z again to make the red indications disappear, all the clouds will regain their original 3D aspect.
I use Chris clouds since the first versions, and they're great.

Regards,

Paolo

LAST EDITED ON May-24-02 AT 08:44PM (EDT)[p]I’m familiar with the bug you’re referring to regarding the on-screen text making the clouds appear flat when you look to the sides, but that’s not what I’m referring to here. Even with no on-screen text the clouds will rotate around the cockpit in most or in many cases just as you reach them. They won’t appear flat--they’ll just get out of the way like a groups of placards circulating around the plane. I think it’s just a limitation in the game engine, and I have to assume without an answer from Chris that his new fine-looking clouds will still have that limitation imposed by FS.

Hi Paul,
We need a patch for fixe this rotation issue, but I don't think this will be available for fs2k2, only fs2004.

Thanks

Chris - The new clouds look great! Will there be an improvement in the framerate hit for denser clouds?
I'm currently using your pack3 and when I have moderate cumulus clouds I get about a 15fps hit. I have my system maxed at 20. Using Athlon 1.4/GeForce 2 Pro with all sliders max except aircraft.

LAST EDITED ON May-24-02 AT 11:32PM (EDT)[p]Hi Vic ,
The frame rate are the same as the fs2k2 default clouds like all fsw clouds, reduce the clouds density slider in fs2k2 option to 75% or 50 % for better frame rate. Better frame rate will only be possible with the clouds density slider.

Thanks
