Thread: B747-400F FedEx New Ficticious Livery!

Default B747-400F FedEx New Ficticious Livery!

Ok, I need your input on this...

I haven't done a repaint in YEARS, and thought I'd give it a go. I've only got the trial version of the software, so this may be my only crack for a while anyway.

None-the-less, I love flying the 747's, and I love the FedEx livery, so I thought I'd try something a bit unique and make a one-of-a-kind. It's so special, that I used the "Custom Critical" version of FedEx's logo, instead of the standard "Express" logo.

It's done on the POSKY 747-428M model with GE engines. The model also comes with some ground/service vehicles, although one doesn't have any textures on it.

First, the pics, then I'll let you know what trouble I'm having and perhaps you can leave a suggestion on how to fix/correct it... (some of the images are slightly blurry/out of focus, but I promise they are nice and clean/sharp up close!)

Okay... the problem I've got, are three objects on the top of the fuselage (a "fin" antenna and two "box" antenna's) - I can't find where in the texture files those are located at, so they're coming out blank. Also, the night textures - the splash light on the tail and the lights behind the windows (albeit only a few windows in all!) don't come on unless the landing lights are on.

Any suggestions on where to find those antenna textures, and how to get the night textures to stay "on" all the time?

    Comments appreciated!!

Sorry, I can't help you with the bugs in your repaint ( I'm about as artistically talented as a bull moose). However, I like what you have done. It looks very good. the only thing I noticed was the splash light on the tail. Small potatoes in my book.

Thanks! What's really bugging me, though, is that the tail light and window lights don't come on unless the landing lights are on. Oh, well... I haven't even "flown" her yet... that's tomorrow's project.

Fantastic paint Whingding. I think that just happens when you upload them to photobucket/imageshack etc, then uplaod them here, they get a bit messed up. Happens to me too

    great livery!
I have no idea how to change the lighting settings, and if someone knows it, i will appreciate to know as well. Specialy if some one knows why the defalts airplanes on FSX behave the same...turn the lights off, all the gauges and windows are off as well....crazy

Not too sure about the tail lighting apart from making new lightmaps.

    WWAAAAAAHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!

I posted a "please help me, I'm a noob" thread over in the painter's forum, and StringBean gave me exactly the answer I needed... look for the thread over there, if you are curious as to why the lights only came on when with the landing lights - has to do with what color the alpha layer is.

As for the tail-splash aka "logo" light, it was more of a hassle, but I finally just repainted the area that would be lit up by the light, over a black tail section, matching it up as best I could to the placement of the logo. The only thing I really didn't do, was paint more of the "splash" on the fuselage below the tail, as they are two different elements on the bitmap and would require another thousand hours (or so) to get the two areas to match up 100% (not simply a "cut-n-paste"). So, it is what it is, but it looks 100% better than before.

As soon as I get all the permissions I need, I'll put it up for everyone to download.... here's the "teaser" shot:

Daytime: (I know it looks awfully purple, but that is the actual color used by FedEx - I sampled it from a true-color photograph. They *do* use blue, but that's an older livery. As for the logo, that is actually the FedEx "Custom Critical" logo, not really used on any of their aircraft that I know of).

Night: Noticed the fixed placement of the logo lighting on the tail! (Thanks again, Bean!)
