Thread: First 747 landing Flytampa Kai Tak

Default First 747 landing Flytampa Kai Tak

I thought I would share some images of my first 747 landing at Kai Tak. Not the best approach, not the best landing, but still felt good. This are images from Fraps videos.

BTW, being 3 months new at FS, I just "discovered" the great angles one can obtain by moving the tower around and toying with the tower altitude.

Strange thing though, I had to import the tower from the new Hong Kong airport as I could not find it at Kai Tak.

This should be posted on the Screen Shot Forum. There's a screenshot forum for a reason.

Use FSrecorder and you can create (and save!) towers views (and many other types of views) everywhere you want and their parameters are ajustables on the fly
    A must have:

If you gave a couple of monkeys a box of ballpoints, enough paper, and enough time, they'd eventually finish up writing the complete works of Shakespeare

    Very nice.

I use the freeware 9-Dragons Kai Tak scenery and flying the approach from CH VOR and down the IGS is one of the best experiences in FS9.

It took me a while to get the hang of the turn, but now I have no problems. I have even taken Concorde in there.

You are doing well for 3 months simming.

Btw, do the AI aircraft at FlyTampa's scenery use the IGS approach ?

Despite my long experience with Flight Simulator, I have managed to land at Kai Tak only three times.

The first time with an A330-200 from CLS, smashed the right wingtip on the runway and touched down on the left half close to the edge.
Second time with an A340-300 (CLS) and this time I flared to much, smashed the tail (tailstrike) on the ground and climbed away and then pitched down to make a hard landing.
Third with an A330-200 once again, a bumpy approach with sudden and quick movements. I managed to touch down properly, though.

For having just three months of experience with FS, you're skills are quite good. Enjoy your approaches when the role of the 'crosswind' steps in..

    Post Re: same

Looks like a pretty hairy landing, I've seen movies on tv where you see
the them land just like the one in screenshot3. I'd hate to be in one of
those apartments when the airliners engines fail.

I wrote the IGS approach for AI planes. My codes are in Tom Gibson's Cal Classic Kai Tak, 9Dragons FS9 Kai Tak, Both FS9 and FSX FlyTampa's Kai Tak and both of my FS9 and FSX default Kai Tak airports.
