Thread: Access Denied

    Unhappy Access Denied

So this is weird. I've been away from FS for a couple years due to other disctractions. Now, I'm getting back to it. I have a new speedy rig with the following spec's:
    Windows Vista 32bit
Dell XPS420 Intel Core2 Quad CPU
    2.4GHz
    4GB RAM
    FSUIPC4 registered

I installed FS9 on it and when I click the desktop icon I instantly get an error message that says "Access Denied." It happens whether I have the disc in the drive or not, and regardless of which disc I have in the drive.

I have a screen capture, but I can't figure out how to post a picture here. I could send it in email to anyone who thinks they could help.

Anyway, has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Due to my desperation to get back into it, I have bought FSX, and it works fine.

    thanks.

make sure you are running the program as administrator. it's the only thing i can think of..
I enjoy Airbus. I hope we can still be friends...

Good idea. Tried that. Same result. Message is actually "Access is denied."

I will probably just stick with FSX now. But, I was hoping with the new PC that I could run FS9 to the max instead of running FSX at moderate settings.

As a test, try turning off UAC (User Account Control). I believe that is done here:

Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts

If that allows you access, then I would recommend you go to your FS2004 folder and Right click on it and under the Security option allow FULL permission (or access, however it is worded) to that folder and all subfolders.

You should also do that to the folder where your FS9.cfg is located (usually a hidden file in Appdata\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX) and also the folder where flights are saved.

Turn UAC on again and re-test.

FS2004 (and FSX for that matter) must be able to make some "changes" as you use the program and you do not want Vista to block those changes in the interest of "security".

    Hope you have success.
