Thread: Windows 7 - Direct X 10 question

  1. Default Windows 7 - Direct X 10 question

    Hi all

I've just installed Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, and FSX, and I've previously been running FSX on Vista.

In Customise Display Settings, I've now got a checkbox option for "Direct X 10Preview". Should I enable this, or is Direct X 10 automatically used anyway by Windows 7 / FSX?

Also, can anyone recommend the best custom settings for my current setup?

    Cheers.

Forgot to give details of graphics card - NVIDIA GTX 295.

Hi man. I readed once that you need to click there, because FSX was created in direct 9.0.
...give a try... maximum the images in 3D wont work ...but you still have a choice to unclick out of the game running a flight.

my windows is 7 64bit as well, and my FSX dont show me this option because my Graphic card in Radeon x1650 pro 512 and just accept 9.0 . so if it is there....enable it!

You could choose between DirectX 9 or DirectX 10. DirectX 10 is just a preview of what FSX could be with DirectX 10. In some computers FSX run smooth on DirectX 10, but not all planes and scenerys are designed to run under DirectX 10. I have W7 64 bits and use DirectX 10 because FSX run smoother.

Many don't enable the DX10 Preview setting as it causes problems with some add-ons, and even some of the default scenery. So while DX10 is usually a little quicker, it isn't always preferable. Try and see what you think.

I been using DX-11, don't remember how I got it...is this good or bad since I have not seen other writings about DX-11?
FSX seems to work well, but then again, I have not compaired it with DX-9 or 10.

DX11 came with Windows 7 and was also made available for Vista. Both Windows 7 and Vista have a special version of DX9 that has been adapted to run with the new graphics engine and driver model of the new systems. So basically FSX will run in DX9 mode on a DX10 or 11 system unless you have the DX10 preview selected. The sim will not, however, benefit from any of the new features in DX11 and will look the same.

And I don't think Nvidia even has any DX11 hardware out yet.
