    Default Known issue with IE8?

    Hi all,

I updated to Internet Explorer 8 and the other million and one other updates from MS recently and ever since then FS would crash about twice per day with a fatal error. I'm running Windows Vista 64 bit. Is there a known issue? Anybody else has anyone else had this problem and possible solution. I noticed a suggestion in this forum and tried it with no success.

You should try to get more information. An application crash is recorded in the Event logger and when you get the crash message on the screen, it should contain more details about the threads/modules involved. If the last (where it crashed) module is an external DLL then you have a starting point.

I am using a computer running XP, so I can't be more specific right now. The next time you experience that crash, copy and paste all the text information which you can find in the crash message.

FSX + acceleration runs fine for me on 32-bit XP Professional and IE8.

It does not help the OP, he's using IE8 on Vista 64 bit...

Running FSX w/ Vista 64-Bit and my updates are current and I don't have any issues.

Only thing I did not install from Windows Update is the suggest nVidia drivers as I prefer to get those direct from nVidia and it usually entails modifying nHancer at the same time.

Do you specifically which updates were applied? I have been using IE8 under Windows 7 x64 and it didn't cause any problems. As has been mentioned, it is usually best to ignore video card driver updates from Windows Update. These are usually older drivers, and occasionally I have seen a driver update break what ever the driver was for.

    Hi Uriahms,

This link may help you as there was a windows update that introduced a DLL. file that FSX did not like. http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?t=205858

This is the only info I get.

Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\fsx.CFG.txt
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dxdiag.txt
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\scenery.cfg
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\fdr.dat
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\FSX\dll.xml
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Local\Temp\WER57FC.tmp.version.txt
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Local\Temp\WER6BCB.tmp.appcompat.txt
    C:\Users\uriahms\AppData\Local\Temp\WER87A5.tmp.mdmp

I realise it happens when I switch aircraft. I just did it.

Thanks Bernie1 for that great help. I'm in the middle of working it out now. From a previous post:

Here is the link for it:

I'm just not sure if to,

    1. download UIAutomationCore.dll
    2. replace it in its default location
    3. copy it to FSX main folder
    4. restart after

I did option 3 without doing any other option and it didn't help

Only place the new file in FSX Root folder, The other one can remain where it is.
