That's pretty cool. Amazing pilot Sully is. I still wish I can find the Discovery Channel show it did a few weeks ago. I missed it.
Very Very nice video
Sully interview- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w93uIvTpajE
That was really good.
Nobody would deny that he judgement was excellent. I just like to hope that he really isn't "fantastic' I'd really prefer to believe that most airline captains would do the same.
I know plenty might lose their cool. But I'd rather have Sulley be closer to average, because when we call him 'Amazing' we automatically assume that most other pilots would have got themselves killed. And I have a difficult time believing that.
Plenty would have failed... But many would have done this pretty much the same way. None of that diminishes that this guy ACTUALLY DID IT... Which is an acheivement either way.
For the rest of us, we hope it remains hypothetical.
One thing I noticed not done in the video was that they followed the eastern shoreline of the Hudson until getting past a bridge. They then turned back over the river to land.
I followed the flight path and was curious as to why he took so long to pull over the river but when in FSX I noticed a bridge at the precise spot he pulls back over the water. I think I double checked this with Google Earth.

Pretty cool for a previous Airforce pilot to make a perfect Navy water landing!!!!!

That is not FSX. It is a proprietary modeling system.
You can, however, fly a recreation of this flight in FSX.
Do you have what it takes to reach an airport runway, rather than ditching? The free downloadable mission, called "Miracle on the Hudson" is available here:

Cheers,
I have to agree but also disagree, if that makes sense. I think him being an air force pilot he had experience in emergency situations like this. I think each pilot would be fine handling the flying in the air aspect but for some reason I feel his prior AF experience played in his water landing.
At the same time this is something we will never be able to put a final yes or no on. Nor do I hope we ever find out a final answer to this.
Incidentally does anybody know what the wind speed and direction was? The ditching looked downwind to me.
PS- I liked the way he decisively took control from the co-pilot with the words "My aircraft"
