Last week I opened a new thread about my screen freezing and sought a solution. Thanks to those who responded. I tried everything and learned about tracking and identifying errors and finding event logs but my problem worsened to where the Microsoft error report window kept restarting FSX which would crash, bringing up the Microsoft fatal error box again and again. I hope my experience will help someone else find a solution to their problem.
I removed programs, reduced my settings, downloaded fixes, even wore my lucky shirt but nothing worked. I restored my hard drive back to before I had problems but FSX still froze minutes after takeoff. I decided something got corrupted in the FSX program. I reinstalled FSX from disk 1 in repair mode but things still were not working right and I still got the freezing screen and fatal error message. The problem was evidently between FSX and WinXP.
I then made a huge mistake, I accidently removed FSX from the add/remove list but I fortunately had a copy of my FSX file on my external storage drive so I copied and pasted it into my desktop application folder. I had to dump my latest framerate enhancement program which may have been a cause, so I am dealing with 5-6 fps again, but I'm happy, everything works again.
I encourage all who can to have a backup copy of your FSX program in storage. All of your subfiles and aircraft will be just as you currently have them and your settings and preferences will be intact if you ever need to restore lost or damaged files. I don't have any idea what caused my problem but everything seems to be all back to where it was before. As I said, I'm happy to be back in the blue again.
Fly happy, Cal
