Thread: AFG textures

  1. Exclamation AFG textures

I did a Royal Nepal YS-11. The textures 'I' used for the engines, landing gear, and such are AFG's. The new model requires different textures for certain things. Am I ok using these textures since the painkit out there are for the old model?

Most aircraft developers have repaint instructions/disclaimers in their paintkits, or on their websites. AFG is no exception.

Is it Ok to use default parts in your repaint?

Yes, you do not need to repaint every single pixel.

Note: if a model uses many texture sheets, and you only paint one or two, it is common to only upload those that you have painted and instruct the end-user to copy the rest from another livery.

Will textures from an older model work on a newer model?

    Maybe, depends on the model.

Do both models use the same filenames?

Is the layout the same between models, on all the texture sheets?

Are both models for the same version of FS?

If the answer is yes to all then you may be OK.

    hope this helps.

Thank you, gentlemen. I did post something on AFG a while ago, now. If I can't release the 'entire' texture, I can release the parts that I repainted. I have tested the skin, and the filenames do work for both newer and older models. The older textures work on the newer model, barely. The paintkit works for both models (at least the fuselage, tail, and wings do.) I'll try AFG's Forums again. Thank you both for the help.

As a rule of thumb , any texture that is in a paint kit is there either to be repainted or distributed as part of the repaint.
There are occasions , as the Bean has stated where the developer will only supply those textures that are required to complete a repaint.

so if you have used the paint kit supplied by AFG and read their terms and conditions then you should be good to go .

The paintkit is done by someone personally on FlightSim. AFG hasn't actually done a paintkit for their YS-11's, I think. I did mention him in my readme.
