Thread: Why is MegaSceneryEarth so expensive?

Default Why is MegaSceneryEarth so expensive?

I've enjoyed my MegaSceneryX retail boxes, but I gotta say I'm really confused as to why I can get the boxed set (2) of MegaSceneryX California (north and south) for $80 at a retail store vs. the MegaSceneryEarth download for California which is $199?? I've compared the MegaSceneryX with MegaSceneryEarth and I can't tell any difference in visual quality.

Even with PCAviator 25% discount sale, the MegaSceneryEarth stuff is still very expensive.

Anyone know what the heck happened to MegaSceneryX/Earth stuff and why it suddenly became super expensive? And the idea of selling small tile areas seems a little crazy to me as the transition from a small single MegaScenery tile to a standard FSX tile is VERY obvious and frankly doesn't blend at all well.

You can buy individual sections for cheaper prices, (Not Tiles, but areas that have a set of tiles included) But I think that they might not be selling too good, and that's why - the cost vs. production thing. I remember they said originally they'd have the whole US Done by End of this year, that hasn't happened yet....

You could consider buying the entire western 11 states for the price of MSE Kalifornia (and it comes on it's own external HD!); http://www.sim-savvy.com/

Shameless plug, but thanks for the link, very interesting.

I can see why the MegaSceneryEarth might not be selling well when one can by it for $80 (or less) at a retail store or $199 online -- very strange.

Just FYI. Your comparison isn't correct. Re-read the info for the retail products again.

MegaSceneryX Northern California and Southern California do not cover the entire state but roughly only the areas around the Bay Area to Sacramento and Los Angeles to San Diego. The MegaSceneryEarth tiles cover the entire state.

Last time I've checked there is no such thing as retail boxed MegaSceneryX Northern California.

Technically there isn't as the Northern California product is for FS2004. I was just trying to clarify to the OP that the retail boxed products he mentioned do not cover the entire state.

The comparison is wrong, but it still is rediculously expensive. Their scenery doesn't even include lining up the airports, which is a must for me.

It COMPLETELY destroys the experience when you can see two airports shadowing each other. I could really care less about the lack of autogen though. It kills FPS and looks funny unless hand placed.

Whatttt? Having the airports in the right spot is important to you? Whodathunkit?!?

BTW, this is a shameless plug, in case a prior poster was wondering. Imagine having airports at the right spot, right elevation and formed into the terrain. It takes time, Tig. Lots and lots of time, as there are few, if any airports that begin to match up. But slowly progress is made.
