    Default Mountain Flying ??

    Hi Everyone,

Can anyone suggest any good mountainous regions to fly over ?? I'm specifically interested in the States / Canada / Alaska etc. My geography in the the US ain't that good, so starting airports and a rough direction indicator i.e. head North / South etc would be useful. Given that FS was written mostly in the US - I understand that most of the really good terrain was put in the States etc.

As always, your help is always appreciated.

    Happy Flyin' Gang,

    Regards

    Eddy

In Alaska try Anchorage/Fairbanks/Barrow. You will be flying past the highest mountain in North America as well as some real beautiful mountains in the Brooks Range.

    Vancouver Minneapolis
    Vancouver Phoenix
    Salt Lake City Los Angeles
All using High Altitude IFR plan
Vancouver takes you on a zig zag course through the Canadian
Rockies then down to the US Rockies

Try flights from Missoula, MT (KMSO)

    SW to Boise, ID
    W to Spokane WA
    N to Kalispell, MT
    E to Bozeman, MT
    SE to Yellowstone, WY

All VFR. It's the best way.

For a short 50 mile flight in a small plane such as the open cockpit Stearman, Afton Wyoming to Jackson Hole, Wyoming is quite scenic when flying low level over the road. I also recommend changing the season to fall. I prefer these colors over too much green.

Just so the Northeast is not left out, the highest peak in that region is Mount Washington, ~15 NM southeast of KHIE in New Hampshire. This is quite close to the Canadian border. There is some good White Mountains add on scenery available at that other site. Also the Green Mountains of Vermont and the Finger Lakes Region of upstate New York. Bring your pontoons, there are plenty of lakes just to the south of the White Mountain Region.
