Thread: Garmin 1000 in jet panels

  1. Default Garmin 1000 in jet panels

Hi folks, I've tried to search for the answer to this but haven't been successful so sorry if this is soemthing that has been covered. I would like to see if the Garmin 1000 GPS can be tranferred over to any of the default Jet panels or if it can be copied over to any of the donloaded jets. I am particularly interested in corporate or business jets and an upgraded glass cockpit and gps for those vs the default FSX panels. Thank you for any help.

Even if you could (and it is very possible if you edited the 2D panel, but much harder, if not impossible, for the VC), the Garmin 1000 in the default Cessna or Mooney is coded for that particular aircraft, so installing them into a jet engine aircraft would not make sense, as the various 'readings' are very different from aircraft to aircraft, and from piston to jet.

Thanks Brian. Old fs user that has been away from it for a few years. I recall being able to import panels in 2004 from one jet to another, especially biz jet to biz jet. I also had a downloaded gps in those dates that was easier to read and resize than the defaullt garmin 500. I like the glass functions that the 1000 offers in the mooney and cessna and didn't know if those instruments or similar panels were out there to use for jets or if there are download files or jets that have an improved glass cockpit feel and look to it. Thanks again, I'll get more confident in knowing what is possible as I use fsx more.

No problem. Yes, the G1000 is very very nice, and I have a third party G1000 sytsem which is even more complete than the default.

There are ways to increase the size of that 500 pop-up in the panel.cfg, but the easiest way is to simply drag on it's edges of the GPS pop-up to increase the size a bit. At least I believe you can do that with the default.

As a person that wears bi-focals, I loves dem pop-ups

Thanks again Brian, any help with a link or web site where I can find the third party Garmin 1000 would be greatly appreciated.

    I bought this one:

    http://www.fs2x.com/G1000%20Web%20Page.htm

And it installs iteslf into the default aircrfat (2D) panel only. But, I am using the Caravan version in my Lionheart Kodiak, but I had to modify the XML file for it to work correctly, including creating a custom 'speed tape'. I also had to customive the VC a bit to make it work and include their AP.

Don, with fs2x, has been promising an update for quite a while now and keeps insisting it is almost finished. You may want to wait for that if you are considering this product.

Also, a more expensive option is one by MindStar, available here:

    http://www.mindstarprods.com/aviation/

Again, it has limitations in terms of retrofitting into other aircraft.

Eaglesoft will be also releasing some of their great aircraft with the G1000 utilizing the MindStar unit, and as I stated above, the Lionheart Kodiak has their version of the G1000. And finally, an aircraft you may want to consider is the Flight1 Mustang, which is a biz jet with a very nice G1000 system: http://www.flight1.com/products.asp?product=f1mustang
