Thread: Scenery install problems

    Default Scenery install problems

I recently upgraded to Windows 7. I had to re install FS9 and all my scenery but it seems that there is a real problem here.
    I have 2 x 500 Gb sata HD's partitioned 200/300 (C & D drive) and 250/250 (E & F drive). I also have an external HD of 750 Gb partitioned 250/250/250.
Windows 7 is on Drive C of course and FS 9 is on drive D

Now, when I install scenery it installs ok but when I activate it in FS9 I click "Add Scenery" and then find the scenery in FS. But where I used to just double click it to install it into FS9 now I have to double click it, then double click scenery, then double click the scenery title again and then it installs and shows on the scenery list. But when I install scenery that has a Land Class file, the land class just shows as LC without a scenery title.
With some scenery even though it shows on the list it doesnt show in flightsim, just a load of a/c parked in a field. Has anyone else had these problems? I cant think of a better way of describing the problem. Sorry but if you need more onfo please let me know..
    Cheers

    Hello,

No answer to your problems .. but ...
    Why partitionning HD's ?
When partitionning a HD he lost some of his performances and also lost space.

    Regards.

    Hi,

Make sure you did not install FS into the Program Files folder.
    Thanks,

    Jim

REally? Whenever I have installed to the C drive it always goes in Program Files/Microsoft Games/FS2004 and I've never had a problem. As it happens, its on my E drive not D sorry my mistake.. But on the E drive it automatically installs to Prog Files(X86)...Incidently, FS9 is all there is on this drive

Also to Avechelice, I partition the first sata so that if I have problems with windows I dont lose all the data on the C drive...

The other drives are also partitioned so that data can be saved to more than one drive incase of HD failure..

    Understand what you mean.
I don't hold my breath on this ...
Take care .. maybe you have false hope ...
In case of HD failure .. partitions will not help more than if the HD have no partitions .. IMHO
Precious datas must be saved (backup) on a different support .. than a HD.
HD is one of the most fragile item of the PC.
Many grey hairs and bald users because HD's failures
Good DVD's well stored are a solution for medium term backup.
    Take care.

    Regards.

Well thanks for that..But if data is backed up onto two drives, you stand a good chance of not losing it..And I'm grey AND bald!!!

    Default File Protection problem

From what I've read here, the newer windows versions Vista and 7 complicate your FS if you put it in the program file section. All the various protection systems prohibit easy file changes. The consensus is to install to it's own c:\fs9 folder and run as administrator. This prevents the protection problem.

Well that sounds about right. But can FS9 easily be moved or will I need another clean install? I have so many addon sceneries etc that it takes ages to get it all up and running again..

I have now reinstalled FS9 into its own directory (E/Microsoft Games/FS9) but its still the same. Some sceneries seem to self install whilst other, treated exactly the same way, dont. Even after getting a scenery onto FS9's scenery list, it doesnt show up in FS9...I'll have to think of something else. Cheers so far guys..

    Hi,

In these circumstances I would check the scenery.cfg file in Notepad, looking to see whether the newly-added scenery has actually been added to the file. If it hasn't it suggests that you have problems related to having the appropriate Administrative Rights to modify the file. Do you have UAC turned on or turned off ?
