    Default FSX reinstall error

I have tried to reinstall FSX five times now and every time I get to the end I get an error message saying FSX could not retrieve user data and to contact local vendor for support which I doubt Walmart would know what to do :l.I have removed every trace of FSX off my hard drive and even bought a new copy of FSX and it still says the same thing. If anyone could help with this problem I'd appreciate it.

Try this: DO NOT install FSX in the default location that FSX wants to install to. Go to Computer/OS/C: and right click and scroll down to "NEW" and click "Folder".

This will give you a New folder that you can name "MS_Games_FSX" without the quotes. This folder will be Empty.

Now go back and run through the FSX Install routine and when it asks you WHERE to install......either Brouse and find....OR type in "MS_Games_FSX" without the quotes. Finish installing FSX.

If you have Vista 64 you may want to go to Control Panel/User Accounts and Turn OFF "User Account Control" while you are installing FSX. Turn it back on after the install. SPOFF

You may need to run the "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility", which you can download from Microsoft.com. Do a Google on the full name if you can not find it. Hope this helps.

There is a thread...maybe a "Sticky" ...that explains how to Clean OUT Remnents of FSX when you Un Install. Look for it. You need to CLEAN OUT FSX before you reinstall FSX. Just sayin. We won't give up.... if you don't give up....

What Operating System are you using.....?? SPOFF

I just had to do a clean re-install after a system crash while FSX was running.

Went through Add Remove Programs in Control Panel and removed every add on aircraft and scenery showing in there, and deleted my FSX folder.

Next I defragged the 500Gb drive I have dedicated to FSX, and ran ccleaner and a virus and spyware check.

Finally I reinstalled FSX and am seeing a dramatic improvement in frame rates.

Other little quirks that have worked their way in over the past year with addons etc. are gone as well.

    Much happier simming now.

This worked for me, your milage may vary...
