    Exclamation Pmdg md-11 autoland

Hi can someone tell me where I can find a tutorial for doing an autoland in the MD-11? I can't find anything about it in the manuals.

i noticed quite some youtube tutorials where they show you how the FMC works etc. it is divided in quite a few parts - perhaps they are showing the autoland feature there as well.
I enjoy Airbus. I hope we can still be friends...

If you do look at the youtube videos, the one thing you must do to have auto land available to you is select the runway on which you will land at the end of your flight plan.

When you are in the flight plan page of the FMC, click on the aiport at which your arriving (If its a long flight plan you may have to scroll down), then select the STAR/arrival option (Haven't used the MD-11 for a while now) on the top right of the fmc then select your STAR/Runway for arrival.

Then when the localizer is alive you can click the approach button above the autoflight and your done.

Hope this helps. - Sorry if i said something wrong, as i said before I haven't used the MD-11 in quite some time.

You get lined up on the localizer at 245kts, hit the 'autoland' button when the bottom localizer caret starts to move, make sure autobrakes is set, set your speed to 160 deploying flaps as needed when the glideslop caret starts to move, and watch the show. Once your wheels hit the ground pull your reverseres back and deploy the speed brake and watch the bird decelerate to a manageable speed. Taxi off the runway and clean things up.

    It's not that complicated...

There is also a tutorial with the MD11 itself wich is a test flight from london to switserland i think, in that tutorial they teach you how to autoland aswell.

When I first catch the localizer I'm at that speed but then slow down to 215kts until the glideslope becomes active then I set the AP speed to 160kts. As speed drops I lower the gear and deploy flaps as needed.

I don't like slow approaches to the localizer. I like to hurry up and get there then slow the bird down from there. It's only when I see traffic in front/behind/on the side of me that I may slow down (or speed up) depending the circumstances.

Fair enough. I'm usually all about the charts or whatever Vatsim ATC tells me to do. If there's no speed constraint on the chart and ATC doesn't tell me to hold a speed I'm usually getting the localizer at 190 knots. It's usually online at Heathrow where I need to be faster or slower, especially on final, where you're often told to hold 160 knots until 4 DME.
