    Default The Shetland Islands (FS9)

A flight around the UK's most Northern group of islands for todays flight, hope you enjoy.

Preparing to leave the aiport at Unst, the furthest North island of the group.

    Turning towards Scatsta after take-off.

Looking out to the East and the island of Fetlar.

Across the island of Yell, Unst in the background.

The oil terminal at Sullum Voe dominates the landscape here.

Turning Eastwards at Scatsta towards Whalsay.

Poor Whalsay, all it ever gets in FS world is a runway..............

The airport at Tingwall serves the capital city of the Shetland Islands, Lerwick.

    Over Lerwick itself.

As we go over Lerwick a look out to the West gives us a glimpse of the harbour town of Scalloway.

    few more to come.................

The largest airport which serves the islands is Sumburgh, during the oil boom in the 1970's this airport was extended with the runways protruding into the ocean at either side of Sumburgh point, the most Southerly point of the island group. I can remember as a child regularly seeing news reports of aircraft not stopping in time and plunging into the waters.

South of the Shetlands and North of the Orkneys lies the home of the woolly jumper Fair Isle. Here we are descending to land at this "half way house".

    Parked in the rain.

    Thanks for looking
    Brian.

    Nice shots Brian!
The pilot is bound only by his mind and his machine. We must expand the mind before we expand the machine, and by expanding the mind, we may expand the machine. Our mind is being expanded by the sim. It is not a game.
