Thread: Question about REX

  1. Default Question about REX

I have been reading about this FSX add-on called REX. What is the full name of this program and where can I buy it. I checked the PilotShop and they do not sell it. Can somebody help me please ......

    REX is "Real Environment eXtreme".

  4. Default REX and UTX

How would it work with UTX? Also what kind of frame hit would it take?
When I added UTX, my frame rates went down to the single digits in outside view. In the flight deck they were fine. But the whole idea of adding these visuals, is to look at them from spot view and thats were it slows up.

REX frame rate reduction will depend on your computer specifications, the options you choose within REX and whether or not you enable HD textures.

I expected to take a frame rate hit when I installed REX...

I was adding it to UTX & GEX as well as a few other addons.

I installed it with every option checked including HD and set every setting I could find to max in it.

Next time I fired up FSX, I actually had BETTER FPS than before the install. I have no idea why other than maybe the setting for low altitude visibility which I accepted the default of 30 miles. I'm guessing that improved my low altitude FPS (high alt was always great) as the FSX default settings let you see really long distances when flying near the ground.

    NOTE: YMMV!

Same here. I got a VERY slight increase in FPS. Best addon EVER btw...
The pilot is bound only by his mind and his machine. We must expand the mind before we expand the machine, and by expanding the mind, we may expand the machine. Our mind is being expanded by the sim. It is not a game.

Thank you again everyone for the kind words! I can't wait to get this newest 4gb update into your hands!

OK - so you got me

I placed an order for REX yesterday.

However, I need the disc version. My (so-called) broad band is more of a bootlace tie (never achieves more than 60Kb/sec)

So now I am watching for the postie to bring my new thrill-a-minute FS add-on so that I can make a start................

    Questions:
I read in a couple of the reviews that the (included) weather engine only takes its data from a small number of sources (20?).

I have been running AS successfully for a few years and am more than happy with the way it operates with its many WX reporting points.

    [questions coming now]
1: Can I continue to use AS or will I be obliged to use the REX WX?

2: Will REX over-ride the AS Graphics - or - should I/will I have to delete AS completely?

I noted that the REX checkout only accepted $Australian - is that where it is coming from?

You can use either AS or REX weather - your choice. AS works perfectly fine with REX clouds etc. BUT - you can NOT use both weather generators together.

AS has no graphics and will use whatever you load from REX or any other weather graphics add on. Deleting or keeping AS is your choice - other than trying to run both weather generators at the same time, there is no conflict. You can enjoy the best of both.
