What do I need to make FSX run the best it can

I have AMD dual core 2.7 mg prosser 4 gigs ram running XP Pro 32 Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 GPU Video card.....new Mother Board, the only thing I did not get was a new Hard Drive....can someone please tell me what I should have so I can turn up all the settings in FSX so it will run without the ground moving in slow motion or not keeping up with the game if you know what I meen.......do I need a better or different Video card.....can't see it,but maybe or should I get a new faster Hard Drive? Please tell me what you guy's run on your systems? Thanks. Jeff

I have a 2.88ghz DUAL Core Processor, 3 gigs of ram, 1gig XFX GTS 250 nVidia PCI-E card, and a 1TB Hard Drive.

OS - Vista Home Premium 32 bit edition, Service Packs 1 and 2 and runs like a charm now on my system.

I know it can be a pain to get FSX running fluid, but it takes a while to tweak your system so that you know it will work fine with it. Good luck!

When you fly, remember the simplest things to do to max out performance, like turning off Virus Scanners, etc - that has impact even though they may not be scanning actively in the back ground. You can always run a scan when your finished flying.

You got that right!

When I first started FSX, I had awful framerates (anywhere from 8-15 or so). Same computer, over a year later, have almost constant FPS of 32 (locked). I don't run any other programs.

I play around with the FSX sliders. Jack this up, turn that down (and don't forget trying that checkbox), and see how she does best!! I now have a happy medium that I'm........ happy with!

Quad core @ 2.4ghz, 6GB RAM (yeah right), Geforce 8500GT. And yes I'm getting a good 30+fps out of it. The heavy scenery does bog it down to some extent.

Not to sound negative here but I think it takes the perfect setup or a miracle to run fsx at good frames without stutters. I have never been exposed to any type of program on any type of operating system that is such a pos in my life. I have given up on fsx. When it gets to the point that u are spending more time researching and trying to tweak your system to make this program run then actually playing it that tells a guy enough is enough. I have expressed my opinion on fsx and microsoft in the past only to get flamed. I guess it is ok to pay for something that doesnt work as advertised. I'm sorry to vent and not be much help but I just wanted to express my opinion. Good luck. U will need it.

FSX works very well on a computer powerful enough to run it properly.
And there are plenty of them out there!

Go out and buy a decent computer and quit bad mouthing FSX.

Ok. Where do u find one of these computers? If u can tell me what to buy that will run fsx properly with out constant tweeks I am all ears. I am being serious here, not trying to be a smart ass. My current system is a q6600 overclocked to 2.8, 8800gt card, 4 gigs ram, 500 gig hard drive, and vista 32. I use fsx sp2, gex, fex, utx, and fly only payware aircraft. I have tried about 10 different video card drivers, nhancer, and every tweak i can find on the web. I use game booster and have defragged my hard drive. Every other program I run on my system runs smooth as silk with no problems. This includes Crysis which as far as I am concerned takes alot more power to run. Yet when I play fsx I encounter horrible frames, stuttering from 50fps down to 10 fps, ctd's, freezing, and some time it freezes my pc so bad I have to unplug it to restart it. I have also disabled my anti virus software with no effect.

Would it possibly be all those high quality payware addons? Your systems a good step up from mine, yet my FPS doesn't drop that low (even with some addon samples from orbx). Different strokes for different folks

Some people seem to get it running flawlessly immediately, others seem to have mountains of problems from the start.

Crysis is a demanding game yes, but not in the same way as FSX is. With Crysis, the graphics system is what gets the biggest workout, not the CPU. FSX is the opposite, where the CPU gets the biggest workout. FSX was also held back to maintain some compatibility with add-ons for prior versions, while Crysis had no such limits.

Overclocking to 2.8GHz is a start, but for the best performance, something well over 3GHz is much better. Do a search for posts by Paxx as he has posted both his system specs and several screenshots showing what his system is capable of.

I have tried a fresh install of fsx several times then installed each add on one by one to see if there is a difference. GEX and FEX actually improved my fps. I dont fly in populated areas and have my traffic turned pretty low. I mainly use carenado aircraft as they seem to give me the best performance. Yes it does seem some people have no problems while it is a battle for others. I am no expert on programming but it just seems there is a flaw in the way fsx was programmed.
