    Default Engine Shimmer !!

Does anyone know of a file that will reproduce the shimmering look that appears behind any aircraft engine when its taxiing, flying, etc... ( example below )

Thanks if there is such a file!

You know, Tony, that's a great idea! People have been working on effects since the SDK came out, but mostly regular smoke. Perhaps some graphics genius can come up with a way of simulating the super-heated jet exhaust too.

Not just that, but also, convincing afterburners.

The engine smoke comes quite close actually. It just needs to be made shorter (as in not such a long trail) and a lighter color, and perhaps a little faster in the animation and I think it will be what we are looking for. As far as afterburners go, I here that GMAX aircraft can't have animated afterburners (or at least no one has figured out how as of yet.).

Tony, that would be possible only through an effect file or through a texture applied to an object found in the model itself. It is hard to make an effect file (.fx) that will do what you want because transparency is not available for this (you could perhaps try with very light colours...). Anyway, the other way would be to, when making the model itself in some programme such as gmax or FSDS (I prefer gmax), to add an object behind the engines (a flat shape?) and add to it a texture with an alpha channel which would make the texture tranparent. But this would leave the heat trail behind the engines all the time... So, its all up to you to get the solution! But, it's a very good idea!!!!!!!
