    Default Flight Pro Sim

I am curious, ran acros this when googleing for something else. Only available by download, the game itself is 229 megs, the scenery is a huge 13 gigs covering the world, but can be obtained on 3 DVDs. Never heard or read anything about it.

They're just selling a copy of the open source Flight Gear project.

This is a commercial adaption of the world renown flight Gear project. Further information available in our Developers Area
You can save yourself some money and just download the sim here:

any revies or opinions from FSX users?
most reviews in google praise Flightgear but seems they are not made by serious simmers that can compare it with pro and cons.

Quick and dirty: Flightgear isn't as good as FSX in most respects (or even FS2004), but has a few things (sloping runways, for example) that are better than FSX. Still, it's free for the download, though if you want the whole world there's a LOT of downloading to do -- scenery is downloadable by lat/long sections. It's a neat program for an occasional change from FS. Give it a try.

Also, it's licensed under the GNU GPL, which means you can get the source code and even modify it yourself, if you are so inclined. They've done quite well on the program, all things considered.

Thanks all for the info. Looks kinda interesting, but I don't understand how I missed it all this time, as I have been 'simming for 15 years!

I may give it a try.

I tried Flightgear, and obviously is still less than FSX in weather, atc, ai, etc. There are no coastlines. But what is incredible is the speed against real elevation landclass data. The satellite imagery Ithink is still faulty. Many areas have "fake" data.

You can download scenery using a graphic world matrix, chosing which region you want, so very quickly you have all your favourite areas in the world. Since I chose my own areas in south america, I guess these were not revised, cause the satellite imagery doesnt match, not only MY HOUSE is not there. Neither my city. Its a completely false imagery they have filled in just to pretend the whole world is ready...but it aint.

For example an airport which is near the coast appears in an island which doesnt exist, etc.

But I loved the speed and with more third party planes an cockpits we will soon have the same detail and quality as FSX. Fixing all the scenery-world faults it will be a rocking sim!

    Its your money John.
Its exactly, and I mean exactly the same as the free version Flightgear.
Flght sim Pro is using the GPL code which is free for any one to use and resell it, its the law. I can also download Flightgear, change its name and sell it in a website, perfectly legal. Asked them what differences with Flightgear and they replied:

    "Some installation improvements and support"

Of course in future many improvements could enhance Flightgear by this or many other companies.

Huh - well, all that being said, think I'm sticking with FSX. It is still the best one anyway....I tried alot over my time, and nothing beats Microsoft IMHO.

Just curious on the different sceneries and satellite stuff, but after hearing the innacuracy....

A wise decision. I tried FlightGear and reverted to my FS9 - Fl;ightGear isn't upto an acceptable standard.
