Thread: Need a fsx manual?

  1. Default Need a fsx manual?

    Hey fam,

remember back in the days when fs came with a manual or thick book in the box?

Well i have been flying since 95 and i wish the new fsx came with a manual. Is there a pdf version of it?

I really need to read vs. The flying video instructions.

Tell me there is a download that ms offers?

    Thanks

There are plenty of Add-on books you can buy at stores even in the FS Pilot shop.

There is Microsoft Flight Simulator X for Real World Training that you can use which could be an excellent manual for it.

Just do a search in the shop, and I'm sure you'll find them. Unfortunately, I think game developers are getting away from the printed manuals.

In the help center too you can find many topics to search for your answers....

I would love a manual.. I have my dads from an older version of FS and its huge, all I got with FSX was a little packet.

    Default Cost Saving for Microsoft

Ragtop said it. Very few, if any computer game producers take the time or spend the money to develop a full manual anymore. MS moved the manual for the flight simulators to the games home page and turned it into a kind of on the fly knowledge base.

I am also old school and miss the manuals that we used to get. They often times included a lot more than just how to play the game. They usually included some history or additional details that really brought the game to life. FS9 has a section on the history of flight, which is mostly about the history of the planes that are included with the game. It would have been interesting to have a real history of flight.

So if you are interested in learning more about the flight simulator there are, as has been mentioned a number of third party books that will cover that. If you are interested in learning more about the history of flight, most major book stores will have a dozen or so books on that. If you are like me and a real cheapskate, look at the books section on Google.com and search for books on aviation. There are lots of them that are in the public domain now and that google has scanned so that you can read them or download them to use on an ebook reader that is compatible with the EPUB file format.

    Thanks for the info.

But what about an up to date one? I would even take the fs9 manual if i could find one for free.

What questions do u have? It's really pretty simple, goof around with it until u figure it out. Not a whole lot has changed in the last several versions of MSFS, that old manual should be as good for FS9 as it was for FS2.

I get the sense from two of the posts in this thread that not everybody realizes that there is a manual with FSX, it's just in HTML format instead of paper. You can access it from the main menu (look for Learning Center) -- but then if you are taken directly to a flight on bootup, you'll never even see the menu. In this case you can select "Show opening screen" in the 'Settings - General' catagory and that will give you the menu screen at startup.

But better still, the starting file for the learning center is the FSX\Uires\lc01.htm file; just open it with your browser of choice and you can stay in the sim AND be in the learning center at the same time instead of either/or using the menu. Bookmark it and it will always be just a click away.

When learning all the features of the GPS you will definitely benefit from being in the sim while you read the details from the Learning Center.

The link to what? The documents are on your hard drive not on the Internet.

To those that want a printed manual: How would it fit in the little CD or DVD case?
    Thanks,

    Jim
