Thread: US Air Bases

  1. Question US Air Bases

    Hi all-

I used to have scenery for the Bangor Maine Air Base before I bought a new computer.

Now I'm redownloading many of the scenery files that I used to enjoy from the library and notice that some, not all, are missing. One in particular was the Bangor Maine Air Base which was nice.

Is it me, or has some of the military air base scenery files gone missing from the library?

Anybody else notice this, or am I getting senile, paranoid, or both?

    Regards...

There is no Air Force Base in Bangor. But military cargo aircraft do refuel there occasionaly. There was a USAF Base in Upstate Maine. Loring AFB was located near Caribou. The Maine Air National Guard may have a presence at Bangor, probably KC-135 aircraft. I've been in the USAF 21 years but can't recall anything near Bangor for active duty.

    Default US Air Bases

By way of tossing in another resource for any visitors who may not know of it, http://www.militaryaiworks.com/ has some good packages for bases and AI aircraft.

Just for info: Bangor International Airport was formally Dow AFB until it was de-activated many years ago and and converted to a civilian airport. I was stationed there in 1962, at which time it was SAC base comprised of B-52s, KC 135s and an ANG Air Defense Command squadron which flew the F89 Scorpions. With advent of the USAF Minuteman missile program many USAF installations were considered redundant and, therefore, closed down for cost effectiveness and mission realignment.

There is a nice scenery package for FS2004 available on this site, just do a search for KBGR under FS2004 scenery.

  7. Red face Bangor Air Base

I mis-remembered (senile) that the airbase was ANG, not USAF as suggested, so my initial searches were diverted. Eventually I found KBGR which was what I wanted.

Thanx to all who replied with suggestions...they helped.

    Regards...
